Know About MBBS

The Full Form of MBBS in English is Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. The short form is coined from the Latin Medicinae Baccalaureus Baccalaureus Chirurgiae. If you are aspiring to step into the world of health science, then MBBS is your first step. If you finish MBBS and grab hold of an MBBS certificate you become a practicing medical professional.

This is an undergraduate medical degree that runs for 5 years. In addition to the 5 years, a one-year internship is also added to the course’s life span. As the Full Form of MBBS suggests, this degree comes combined with a set of degrees in medicine and surgery. Further specifications can be opted if you wish to take your studies further higher.

What Do You Need to Have in Your Bag to Pursue MBBS?

The full form of MBBS needs you to score at least 50% in the 10+2 exam. The SC/ST/OBC students having 40% are eligible to pursue MBBS. You must come from a recognized board of education. Students from the science stream with Physics, Biology, and Chemistry as subject combinations are permitted to study MBBS. In addition to this, you must possess an entrance exam clearance certificate. NEET is mandatory for all aspirants.

What is NEET?

NEET is the National Eligibility cum Entrance Exam that is held on the national level for students aspiring to pursue the MBBS full form. NEET has provisions for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses under the examinations NEET UG and NEET PG respectively.

Why is NEET Important?

NEET is an exam that permits the aspirants to establish a practicing medical career in India after completing their MBBS full form course. Without a NEET certificate, you will not be able to continue with your medical journey in India. Students who fly out to foreign medical universities must also have a NEET clearance certificate to come to India for their medical careers.

What are the Eligibility Criteria for NEET?

Are There Other Medical Courses Apart From The Mbbs?

Some of you may be wondering if the MBBS is the only route to take if you want to be a doctor. Surely it can’t be the only doctorate degree available? Well, India does have plenty of degree courses related to medicine, not just the MBBS. Some of these courses are undergraduate degrees while some are postgraduate degrees. Below you will find a full list of medical degrees available in India and what you can expect from them. Most of these courses require a good NEET score for admission, so after you have taken a look at the information below, you can look up the resources for NEET.

  • Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

This degree is a specialized degree in Ayurvedic Medicine. Unlike the MBBS, it does not teach more than the basics of regular medical practices. This course is good for teaching you about traditional Ayurvedic techniques, but it does not teach enough about regular medicine.

  • Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS)

This degree is also a specialized degree that deals only with Homeopathy and homeopathic treatments. Once again, it is a good choice if you want to specialize in homeopathy, but if you wish for a more well-rounded medical education, it is better to go for the MBBS.

  • Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc)

This degree is the degree of choice for those who want to become veterinary doctors, that is, doctors who specialize in the treatment of animals. This is also an extremely popular course, since the other, human-oriented medical courses rarely teach students about the treatment of animals.

  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT)

The Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) degree focuses on Physiotherapy rather than other surgical and medical treatments. Physiotherapy is a branch of medicine that deals with body issues through physical therapy and movement. This is a growing branch of medicine due to the relative lack of medical drugs involved and the healthy, holistic approach to physical movement.

  • Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS)

This degree is another degree that specializes in an ancient, traditional form of Indian medicine. It is a relatively new degree and thus hasn’t become as popular as its counterparts yet.

  • Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery (BSMS)

This form of traditional medicine is one of the oldest recorded forms of medicine practiced in India. However, due to the relative lack of regular medical teaching, this course has not gained the popularity of its counterparts.

  • Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yoga

As the name suggests, this degree focuses on the spiritual practice of Yoga and its medical applications. Yoga, while generally being classified as a spiritual practice, has a long and rich history of medical achievements associated with it. This is a relatively new degree compared to the others on this list.
