National Updates
- In Manipur, the State Government set up a dedicated Integrated Anti-Extortion Cell under the Home Department comprising representatives from the State Police, Central Armed Police Forces, Assam Rifles and Indian Army.
- KM Cherian, a world-renowned cardiologist for over 50 years passed away at Bengaluru. The 82-year-old Cardiologist reportedly collapsed while attending a wedding.
- 160-member marching contingent and 190-member band contingent from Indonesia took part in the Republic Day Parade. Thirty-One tableaux from various States, Union Territories, and Central Government Ministries and Departments participated, showcasing the theme “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas.”
- Centre has officially notified the implementation of the Unified Pension Scheme, UPS. Government had introduced Unified Pension Scheme in August last year, as an option under the National Pension System for Central Government employees. The scheme will come into effect from 1st April this year.
International Updates
- The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) suspended all assistance programmes in Bangladesh. In a letter sent to all its implementing partners in Bangladesh, the US donor agency USAID has directed to immediately stop, cease and suspend any work in Bangladesh.
- The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has announced that the second phase of prisoner-hostage exchange between Hamas and Israel has completed. The exchange was implemented under the initial terms of the ceasefire agreement.
- US President Donald Trump has sacked 17 independent watchdogs from across multiple government agencies.
Sports Updates
- In the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, India stormed into the semi-finals with a commanding eight-wicket win over Bangladesh at Bayuemas Oval Stadium in Kuala Lumpur. Sent in to bat first, Bangladesh managed just 64 runs for eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
- In the Australian Open Tennis, World No. 1, Italy’s Jannik Sinner won the men’s singles title. In the final, he defeated Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 at Rod Laver Arena. With his triumph, the 23-year-old Italian became the youngest man to win multiple Australian Open titles.
- In Athletics, India’s Jyothi Yarraji broke her own national record and won the gold medal in the women’s 60m indoor hurdles at the Meeting de Nantes Métropole 2025 in France.
- In Australian Open Tennis, top seeded duo Taylor Townsend of US and Czech player Kateřina Siniaková clinched the Women’s Doubles title at the Melbourne Park’s iconic Rod Laver Arena.
