National Updates
- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast dense to very dense fog conditions at isolated pockets of the northern and eastern parts of the country for the next three to four days.
- Indian Railways has made robust arrangements to cater to the large rush of devotees and pilgrims who want to attend Mahakumbh at Prayagraj on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya on the 29th of this month.
- India will celebrate Parakram Diwas 2025 to honour the legacy of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on the occasion of his 128th birth anniversary on Thursday.
- The government has said that over four crore Sukanya Samriddhi accounts have been opened across the country. The scheme was launched on 22nd January 2015 as part of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign.
- Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh has said that the country’s space economy has grown to eight billion dollars and is projected to touch forty-four billion dollars in the next decade.
- With an aim to curb grey market trading, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is planning to bring in a system where investors can sell shares as soon as they are allotted in an Initial Public Offering.
- The Association of Legislative Bodies, All India Presiding Officers’ Conference (AIPOC), has resolved to ensure a disruption-free environment and qualitative debate and discussion during the proceedings of legislative bodies.
- The Amrit Udyan of Rashtrapati Bhavan will be open for public viewing from the 2nd of next month till the 30th of March. People can visit the Udayan six days a week between 10 AM and 6 PM except on Mondays.

- Florida Senator Marco Rubio has been sworn in as the next U.S. Secretary of State. The Senate confirmed his appointment, making him the first member of Trump’s cabinet to receive Congressional approval.
- At least 66 people were killed and 51 others injured in a fire at a hotel at a ski resort in northwestern Türkiye.
- President Donald Trump has signed a series of executive actions, revoking 78 of Joe Biden’s policies, hours after returning to the White House. Trump signed an order seeking to end automatic birthright citizenship for children of people not in the country legally.
- Singapore has introduced stricter regulations on-screen use for children as part of the “Grow Well SG” health initiative. Starting February 1, preschools will ban screen use for children under 18 months and limit it to educational purposes for those aged 18 months to six years.
- On the occasion of the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation (IYGP), 2025, Prime Minister of Nepal KP Sharma Oli announced the Sagarmatha Sambaad (Dialogue) scheduled to take place in Kathmandu on May 16-18, 2025.
- Head of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, responded to the Trump administration’s executive order to withdraw from the organisation. He wrote on the social media platform X that the WHO deeply regrets the United States’ decision to withdraw.
- The global paper industry is embracing sustainability as its core focus, as evidenced by The Paper & Tissue Show 2025, which opened at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The three-day event, running from January 21-23, has attracted over 300 exhibitors and 16,000 visitors.
- In Colombia, at least 80 people have died, and over 18,000 have fled their homes due to violent clashes between rival armed groups near the Venezuelan border.

- In the ICC Under-19 Women’s Cricket T20 World Cup, India defeated hosts Malaysia by 10 wickets at the Bayuemas Oval Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.
- At the Tata Steel Chess Tournament in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands, Indian star Gukesh Dommaraju drew with World No. 2 Fabiano Caruana of the USA in Round 3.
