National Updates

  • Ministry of Railways clarified that there is no inquiry being conducted apart from the inquiry being conducted by the high-level committee on the New Delhi Railway station stampede.
  • The unemployment rate for people aged 15 years and above in urban areas dipped to 6.4 per cent in the October-December quarter. The unemployment rate in the December quarter of the current Financial Year was 6.5 per cent.
  • BJP National President and Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda met with the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani in New Delhi. During the meeting, Mr Nadda provided an overview of vision and governance of India’s healthcare advancements under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • Minister for Earth Sciences Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurated the Mausam Bhawan Open-Air Art Wall Museum in New Delhi to mark the 150th anniversary of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
  • Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju emphasized the need for the well-being and physical readiness of Haj pilgrims ahead of their spiritual journey. He made this statement while attending the Haj Walkathon 2025 at Jamia Millia Islamia University in New Delhi.
  • The Supreme Court granted bail to alleged middleman Christian Michel James in the 3,600 crore rupees AgustaWestland chopper scam.

 

International Updates

  • US. and Russian officials held more than four hours of talks in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marking their first discussions aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. Both countries agreed on four principles.
  • Salehuddin Ahmed, Finance Adviser of Bangladesh’s Interim Government, acknowledged the challenges of tackling market syndicates and price hikes of essential goods.
  • The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will meet on February 28 to assess the third review of Sri Lanka’s economic reform program. On Monday, Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Dissanayake presented the budget, targeting a fiscal deficit of 6.7% of GDP.
  • The BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi celebrated its first anniversary with a grand event, aligning with the UAE’s Year of Community. The occasion brought together UAE leadership, community figures, and thousands of devotees in a tribute to a year of unity, service, and faith.
  • In the United States, President Donald Trump’s administration has begun firing hundreds of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) employees, who maintain critical air traffic control infrastructure.

 

Sports Updates

  • In the Hockey FIH Pro League, the Indian Women’s team lost to Spain 3-4 at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar. India had taken the lead in the second quarter through Baljeeet Kaur in the 19th minute and Spain equalised just a couple of minutes later through Sofia Rogoski.
  • The second and final leg of the Khelo India Winter Games 2025 has been postponed due to insufficient snowfall. The Winter Games were initially set to take place in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir.
