National Updates

• The Election Commission announced the poll schedule for the 70-member Delhi Assembly elections. Polling for the Delhi Assembly will be held on 5th February, and counting will be done on the 8th of the next month
• PM Modi praises Exam Warriors Art Festival for Helping Students Overcome Exam Stress
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with the President of the European Council, António Costa. In a social media post, Mr Modi said India and the EU are natural partners. He said both are committed to working closely together to further strengthen the India-EU Strategic Partnership
• A cold wave has gripped all of North India, with dense fog being witnessed in the mornings. Dense fog conditions are likely to prevail during morning and night hours in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, and Jharkhand during the next 3-4 days.
• India has expressed condolences on the loss of life and property caused by the earthquake in the Tibet Autonomous Region.
• The Indian Navy’s latest guided missile, INS Tushil, has completed its inaugural port visit to Dakar, Senegal.
• Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled the Government of India Calendar for 2025 in New Delhi. The government has chosen “Janbhagidari se Jankalyan” as the central theme.

International Updates

• In Indonesia, Mount Ibu, located in North Maluku province, erupted , prompting the Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation to issue a flight alert.
• South Korean Court granted an extension of a warrant to detain impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol over his short-lived imposition of martial law.
• Sri Lanka’s opposition leader, Sajith Premadasa, has expressed regret over the government’s decision to make changes to the leadership of the Suwa Seriya ambulance service
• The death toll in the earthquake that struck the Nepal-Tibet border region has reached 126. Chinese official media reported that 188 people were also injured after a powerful 7.1-magnitude earthquake in the region
• US President-elect Donald Trump renewed his offer to make Canada the 51st state, hours after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s resignation.

• In badminton, India’s women’s doubles duo Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand advanced to the round of 16 at the Malaysia Super 1000 tournament in Kuala Lumpur, defeating Thailand’s Ornnicha Jongsathapornparn and Sukitta Suwachai.
• In Badminton, the Indian Youth Under-18 Junior team has reached the final of the IHF Trophy-Asia Zone at the K.D. Singh Babu Stadium in Lucknow
• In Squash, India’s Anahat Singh has clinched the Under 17 Girl’s Singles title at the British Junior Open in Birmingham, England. The 16-year-old top-seed Indian defeated Malika El Karaksy of Egypt
• In the Indian Super League Football, Mumbai City FC registered a 3-2 victory over East Bengal FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium in Kolkata
