The crisis centered around the Suez Canal, a vital waterway connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea, which was owned and operated by the Suez Canal Company, largely controlled by Britain and France.

However, the military intervention by Britain, France, and Israel was met with international condemnation, particularly from the United States and the Soviet Union. Both superpowers opposed the invasion and pressured the invading countries to withdraw their forces from Egypt. Under intense diplomatic pressure and the threat of economic sanctions, Britain, France, and Israel eventually agreed to withdraw their forces.
The Suez Canal Crisis had significant repercussions for the countries involved and for international relations more broadly. It marked the decline of British and French colonial influence in the Middle East and the rise of the United States and the Soviet Union as the dominant superpowers in the region.
