Historical Background

The position of NSA was established in 1998 during the tenure of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Brajesh Mishra was the first National Security Advisor of India.

Strategic Policy Group (SPG):

  • Chaired by the Cabinet Secretary, the SPG includes the chiefs of the armed forces, intelligence agencies, and other senior officials.
  • Advises on strategic security and defense matters.

Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC):

  • Responsible for the coordination and analysis of intelligence reports.
