Murray river is considered as Australia’s longest river. Its length is 2508 Km. The origin point of Murray river is Australian Alps. It drains the western part of Alps mountains and then flows to the plains and then to southern Australia and then meets the ocean at Lake Alexendrina near Goolwa in South Australia. Along with its tributary Darling river, the Murray Darling basin becomes the largest river basin of Australia.

This river originates from Great Slave lake at Fort Providence at an elevation of 156 m.
