Hockey magician Major Dhyan Chand

Dhyan Chand was an Indian field hockey player। Who is largely considered the best player of hockey। Dhyan Chand’s goal scoring ability was amazing। During his time playing, India won three gold medals in hockey (1928, 1932 and 1936) at the Olympics। This was the time when India was the best team in hockey।Dhyanchand is called the magician of hockey for his control with the hockey ball। Dhyan Chand played the last international match in 1948। During his international career, he had scored more than 400 goals। The Indian government now awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third and second-place civilian honour in his era, in 1956। His birthday is celebrated on 29 August as National Sports Day (National Sports Day) in India।

Childhood :

Dhyan Chand was born on 29 August in Allahabad (Uttar Pradesh)। Born in a Rajput family, Dhyan Chand was the elder brother of a hockey player named Roopsingh। His father Sameshwar Singh was in the British Indian Army and played hockey for the Army। Another brother of Dhyan Chand was named Mool Singh। Due to repeated transfers by his father, Dhyanchand had to leave studies after class six। His family finally settled in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh।

Careers :

In his childhood, Dhyan Chand had no focus on hockey and he liked wrestling। Dhyan Chand joined the Indian Army at that time he was 16 years old। He used to practice sports at night and also wait for the moon to rise because he started seeing it only after the moon rises। There was no light outside at that time। Due to waiting for the moon, his friends started calling him Chand and he was named Dhyan Chand।Between 1922 and 1926, Dhyan Chand played only Army hockey and regiment games। Later he was selected for the Indian Army team which was to go to New Zealand and play। This team won 18 matches, drew 2 and lost one match। All the spectators who came to watch became fans of the team। As soon as he returned to India, Dhyan Chand was made a Lance Naik।After sending the best team to the Olympics, the newly formed Indian Hockey Federation started preparing the best team for the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics। In 1925, the tournament was held between several states। Five teams participated in it in which Army allowed Dhyan Chand to play in a team named United Province।In the very first match of the Indian team in 1928 at the Olympics in Amsterdam, Dhyan Chand scored 3 goals against Austria। The next day India beat Ballgium 9-0 although Dhyan Chand had scored just one goal। The next match was won by India against Denmark with 3 goals scored by Dhyan Chand out of a total of 5। Two days later, Dhyan Chand scored 4 goals against Switzerland and led the Indian team to victory।

Hockey magicians :

The final match was against Neatherland on 26 May। Good players of the Indian team Firoz Khan, Ali Shaukat, Kher Singh were ill। Even Dhyanchand’s health was bad। Despite this, India managed to win the match 3-0। In this, Dhyan Chand scored 2 goals। In this way India won the first gold medal of hockey। Dhyan Chand was the player who scored the most goals in the Olympics।A newspaper wrote for Dhyanchand, ‘This was not a hockey match but magic। Dhyan Chand is actually a magician of hockey।’

 

In the last days :

In 1951, the Dhyan Chand Tournament was held at the National Stadium in honor of Captain Dhyan Chand। After taking part in many successful tournaments, Captain Dhyan Chand retired from the Army at the age of 51 in 1956 with the post of Major। The Government of India honored him with Padma Bhushan this year।After retirement, he continued to work as a hockey coach in Mount Abu, Rajasthan। After this he became the chief hockey coach at the National Institute of Sports, Patiala। He held this post here for many years। In the last days of his life, Dhyan Chand lived in his hometown Jhansi (Uttar Pradesh)। Major Dhyan Chand passed away in All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi on 3 December 1979। His regiment Punjab Regiment cremated him with full honours।

हॉकी के जादूगर मेजर ध्यानचंद

ध्यानचंद एक भारतीय फील्ड हॉकी प्लेयर थे। जिन्हें बड़े पैमाने पर हॉकी का सबसे बेहतरीन खिलाड़ी माना जाता है। ध्यानचंद के गोल करने की क्षमता कमाल की थी। उनके खेलने के दौरान भारत ने हॉकी में तीन गोल्ड मैडल (1928, 1932 और 1936) ओलंपिक में जीते थे। यही वह समय था जब भारत हॉकी में सबसे अच्छी टीम था।हॉकी बॉल के साथ अपने कंट्रोल के लिए ध्यानचंद को हॉकी का जादूगर कहा जाता है। ध्यानचंद ने आखिरी अंतराष्ट्रीय मैच 1948 में खेला। अपने अंतराष्ट्रीय करियर के दौरान वे 400 से अधिक गोल कर चुके थे। भारतीय सरकार ने अब तीसरा और उनके दौर में दूसरे स्थान का नागरिक सम्मान पद्मभूषण प्रदान 1956 में किया। उनका जन्मदिन भारत में नेशनल स्पोर्ट्स डे (राष्ट्रीय खेल दिवस) के तौर पर 29 अगस्त को मनाया जाता है।

बचपन :

ध्यानचंद का जन्म 29 अगस्त को इलाहाबाद (उत्तरप्रदेश) में हुआ। राजपूत परिवार में जन्में ध्यानचंद रूपसिंह नाम के हॉकी खिलाड़ी के बड़े भाई थे। उनके पिता समेश्वर सिंह ब्रिटिश इंडियन आर्मी में थे और आर्मी के लिए हॉकी खेलते थे। ध्यानचंद के एक और भाई का नाम मूलसिंह था। उनके पिता के बार बार होने वाले ट्रांस्फर के चलते ध्यानचंद को कक्षा छह के बाद पढाई छोड़नी पड़ी। उनका परिवार आखिर में उत्तरप्रदेश के झांसी में ही बस गया।

करियर :

बचपन में ध्यानचंद का हॉकी पर कोई ध्यान नहीं था और उन्हें पहलवानी पसंद थी। ध्यानचंद ने भारतीय आर्मी ज्वाइन की उस समय उनकी उम्र 16 साल थी। वह रात में खेल की प्रेक्टिस करते थे और चांद के निकलने का इंतजार भी क्योंकि चांद निकलने के बाद ही उन्हें दिखाई देने लगता था। उस दौर में बाहर लाइट नहीं हुआ करती थी। चांद के इंतजार के कारण ही उनके दोस्त उन्हें चंद पुकारने लगे और उनका नाम ध्यानचंद पड़ा।1922 से 1926 के बीच ध्यानचंद ने सिर्फ आर्मी हॉकी और रेजिमेंट गेम्स खेले। बाद में उन्हें इंडियन आर्मी टीम के लिए चुन लिया गया जिसे न्यूजीलैंड जाकर खेलना था। इस टीम ने 18 मैच जीते, 2 ड्रा हो गए और एक मैच टीम हार गई। देखने आए सभी दर्शक टीम के प्रशंसक हो गए। भारत लौटते ही ध्यानचंद को लांस नायक बना दिया गया था।ओलंपिक में बेहतरीन टीम भेजने के बाद, नई बनी हुई इंडियन हॉकी फेडरेशन ने 1928 के एमस्टरडैम ओलंपिक के लिए बढिया टीम तैयार करना शुरू कर दिया। 1925 में कई राज्यों के बीच टूर्नामेंट रखा गया। पांच टीमों ने इसमें भाग लिया जिसमें आर्मी ने ध्यानचंद को युनाइटेड प्रोविंस नाम की टीम में खेलने की इजाजत दी।एमस्टरडैम में हुए ओलंपिक में 1928 में भारतीय टीम के पहले ही मैच में ध्यानचंद ने ऑस्ट्रिया के खिलाफ 3 गोल दागे। अगले दिन भारत ने बैल्जियम को 9-0 से हराया हालांकि ध्यानचंद ने सिर्फ एक गोल दागा था। अगला मैच भारत ने डेनमार्क के खिलाफ जीता जिसमें कुल 5 में से 3 गोल ध्यानचंद ने किए थे। दो दिन बाद, ध्यानचंद ने स्विट्जर्लैंड के खिलाफ 4 गोल किए और भारतीय टीम को जीत दिलाई।

हॉकी के जादूगर :

फायनल मैच 26 मई को नीदर्लैंड के खिलाफ था। भारतीय टीम के अच्छे खिलाड़ी फिरोज खान, अली शौकत, खेर सिंह बीमार थे। यहां तक की ध्यानचंद का भी स्वास्थ्य खराब था। इसके बावजूद भारत यह मैच 3-0 से जीतने में सफल रही। इसमें ध्यानचंद ने 2 गोल किए। इस तरह भारत ने हॉकी का पहला गोल्ड मैडल जीता। ध्यानचंद ओलंपिक में सबसे अधिक गोल करने वाले खिलाड़ी थे।एक अखबार ने ध्यानचंद के लिए लिखा, ‘ये हॉकी का मैच नहीं था बल्कि जादू था। ध्यानचंद असलियत में हॉकी के जादूगर हैं।’

 

आखिरी दिनों में :

1951 में कैप्टन ध्यानचंद के सम्मान में नेशनल स्टेडियम में ध्यानचंद टूर्नामेंट रखा गया। कई सफल टूर्नामेंटों में हिस्सा लेने के बाद, 1956 में 51 वर्ष की उम्र में कैप्टन ध्यानचंद आर्मी से मेजर की पोस्ट से रिटार्यड हो गए। भारत सरकार ने उन्हें इसी वर्ष पद्मभूषण से सम्मानित किया।रिटायर्मेंट के बाद, राजस्थान के माउंटआबू में वह हॉकी कोच के रूप में कार्य करते रहे। इसके बाद पाटियाला के नेशनल इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ स्पोर्ट्स में वह चीफ हॉकी कोच बन गए। यहां कई साल तक वे इस पद पर रहे। अपने जीवन के आखिरी दिनों में ध्यानचंद अपने गृहनगर झांसी (उत्तरप्रदेश) में रहे। मेजर ध्यान चंद का 3 दिसंबर 1979 में ऑल इंडिया इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ मेडिकल साइंस दिल्ली में स्वर्गवास हो गया। उनकी रेजीमेंट पंजाब रेजीमेंट ने पूरे सम्मान के साथ उनका अंतिम संस्कार किया।
