• President Droupadi Murmu has appointed governors in five states. The Governor of Mizoram Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati will now be the new Governor of Odisha. The development came following the resignation of the present Odisha Governor Raghubar Das
• The Ministry of Ayush has launched a film series titled “Ayush for All: Holistic Health Care through National Ayush Mission, showcasing the remarkable progress and transformative impact of the National Ayush Mission (NAM).
• The Reserve Bank’s monthly bulletin for December 2024 has indicated that the Indian economy is recovering from the slowdown witnessed in the second quarter, driven by strong festival activity and a sustained upswing in rural demand.
• The Ministry of Communications has said that over a 90 percent reduction has been witnessed in the number of spoofed international calls from Indian numbers in two months since the launch of the International Incoming Spoofed Calls Prevention System’ on the 22nd of October
• The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released the results of the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE) for 2023-24 for the reference period, October 2023 to September 2024.
• Union Home Minister Amit Shah today chaired a review meeting on the implementation of three new criminal laws with the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) in New Delhi
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi today participated in a pre-budget consultation with eminent economists at NITI Aayog in New Delhi.

International Updates

• Maia Sandu assumed office as president of the Republic of Moldova for a second term. She won the Moldovan presidential elections in 2020 and was re-elected in a runoff in November, this year.
• South Korea’s ruling People Power Party (PPP) named five-term lawmaker Kwon Young-se to head its emergency leadership committee tasked with managing the political fallout from President Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment
• Kilauea, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, started erupting again on Hawaii’s Big Island.
• Aisake Valu Eke was elected as the new Prime Minister of Tonga. He will be officially sworn in as Prime Minister in February next year.

Sports Updates

• Karnataka’s M Raghu and Haryana’s Devika Sihag secured senior national badminton titles in the men’s and women’s sections at the 86th edition of the tournament in Bengaluru
• In weightlifting, Parv Chaudhary secured two bronze medals in the 96 kg category to continue India’s domination at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Doha
• The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced the fixtures for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025. The championship will take place from the 19th of February to the 9th of March, next year.
• In women’s cricket, India thrashed West Indies by 115 runs in the second ODI at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara this evening to win the three-match ICC Championship series 2-0.
• In Weightlifting, India’s Sairaj Pardeshi bagged one gold and two silver medals in snatch, clean and jerk, and total lift categories at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Doha
• In Shooting, Shahu Tushar Mane clinched the gold medal to claim his first senior national title in the men’s 10m Air Rifle competition at the 67th National Shooting Championship, in Bhopal.
