• Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to visit India from February 26 to March 7, 2026, marking a major reset in the relationship between the two nations. This is the first official visit by a Canadian leader since ties were strained under the previous administration.

• The Election Commission will today organise the National Round Table Conference of ECI and State Election Commissioners at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The Round Table Conference is being held after a gap of 27 years. The last such Conference was held in the year 1999.

• President Droupadi Murmu will be on a four day visit to Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Rajasthan from today. The President will inaugurate the nationwide campaign ‘Saving Lives and Building a Healthier Bharat’, being organised by PD Hinduja Hospital at Lok Bhavan, Mumbai today.

• Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has launched the second phase of asset monetisation pipeline of Central ministries and public sector entities in New Delhi. The second phase of the pipeline has been developed by NITI Aayog, in consultation with infrastructure line ministries, based on the mandate.

• Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal today virtually interacted with Minister of International Trade of Canada Maninder Sidhu on advancing discussions related to the India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.

• Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions today said that more than 200 crore rupees in revenue were earned from scrap disposal from December 2025 to January 2026.

• Slovakia has halted emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine amid an escalating dispute over the suspension of Russian oil deliveries through the Druzhba pipeline.

• In Mexico, at least 25 members of the National Guard military police were killed in retaliatory violence in the state of Jalisco after the killing of a drug lord. Unrest has erupted in at least 20 states since Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes – better known as “El Mencho” – died in custody.

• United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that human rights are under unprecedented assault around the world. He pointed to widespread violations of international law and the immense suffering of civilians in conflicts in Sudan, the Gaza Strip, and Ukraine.

• The European Union’s latest sanctions package targeting Russia’s shadow fleet and energy revenues is being blocked by Hungary. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said that the bloc’s 27 foreign ministers, meeting in Brussels, were unlikely to approve the 20th sanctions package.

• Dutch King Willem-Alexander has officially sworn in a new Dutch government, led by Rob Jetten, who is the youngest Prime Minister in the country’s history. Jetten leads a three-party coalition government made up of his centrist party, Democrats ’66 (D66), the Christian Democratic Appeal.
