National Updates

  • Preparation for the Republic Day parade is in full swing. Today a full dress rehearsal will take place on Kartavya Path. The parade rehearsal will start at 10:30 AM from Vijay Chowk and will proceed to Red Fort. To ensure a smooth parade, elaborate traffic arrangements have been made.
  • Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw discusses technologies to enhance Indian Rail safety with Swiss delegation
  • The government has decided to increase the Minimum Support Price of raw Jute for marketing season 2025-26. Briefing media in New Delhi about the Cabinet decisions, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said, MSP of five thousand 650 rupees per quintal for raw jute will be provided.
  • At least eleven passengers of the Pushpak Express have been killed, while 14 others have been injured after being hit by the Karnataka Express, which was passing through an adjacent track near Pachora station in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district
  • Investor registrations at the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) have surged, with the unique registered investor base surpassing 11 crore on January 20, 2025. The total number of client accounts has reached 21 crore.
  • The Indian Navy is all set to showcase its indomitable spirit on the Kartavya path this year during the Republic Day parade. According to the Indian Navy, 148 members marching contingent led by Lieutenant Commander Sahil Ahluwalia will take part in the Republic Day parade.
  • Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava underscored the need to address the rising cases of strokes in the country.

International Updates

  • A sector commander-level meeting between Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was held on Wednesday for the Malda -Chapainawabganj sector, focused on resolving key issues related to border security and cooperation.

  • Sheikh Muhammad Ali Hammadi, a senior Hezbollah official, was fatally shot on Tuesday in a drive-by attack near his residence in Machghara, located in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley.
  • The government of Nepal is increasing the permit fees for climbing Mount Everest from USD 11000 to USD 15000, making the world’s tallest peak more expensive for mountaineers. The fees are revised after 2015. The new rate is applicable from 1st September this year.
  • US President Donald Trump has been sued over his plan to end birthright citizenship in the United States by a coalition of Democratic-leaning states and civil rights groups. The lawsuits were brought by 22 Democratic-led states along with the District of Columbia and the city of San Francisco.
  • The US National Weather Service (NWS) advised South California residents to limit outdoor activities due to bad air quality amid devastating wildfires. The NWS has issued several air quality alerts covering the South Coast Air Basin, Coachella Valley and eastern Riverside County.
  • Kenya is on high alert after neighbouring Tanzania confirmed an outbreak of Marburg virus disease (MVD) in the northwestern Kagera region.
  • At least 76 people died, and 51 others were injured in a fire at a hotel at a ski resort in Kartalkaya, Bolu province.
  • UNP, SJB party agree to unite for local govt elections in Sri Lanka.

 

Sports Updates

  • ​In Cricket, India defeated England by 7 wickets in the first T20 international of the five-match series at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Chasing the target of 133 runs set by England, India reached the target in 12.5 overs for the loss of three wickets.
  • Youth Affairs & Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya felicitated the World Cup-winning Men’s and Women’s Kho Kho teams in New Delhi. The Minister lauded the players for making the country proud.
