National Updates

• The Centre informed that to boost the economy and increase employment generation, the government has announced an employment-linked incentive scheme in the union budget for 2024-25.
• India and Sri Lanka exchanged protocol amending agreements between the two countries for avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes in income. Both sides also exchanged MoU on training and capacity building of civil servants of Sri Lanka.
• Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) Vadodara has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Navy to enhance logistics-related education, research, and training in New Delhi
• Rajya Sabha begins special discussion on glorious journey of 75 years of Constitution of India
• The Commission for Air Quality Management has reimposed the revised third phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in the Delhi-NCR region following the sharp rise in air pollution.
• The education ministry today informed that the government will develop 620 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) under the PM SHRI scheme, which will focus on further strengthening the infrastructure and other amenities of the existing school.
• The Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Jayant Chaudhary, has informed us that over 63.17 lakh teachers were trained under different NISHTHA programs conducted by NCERT in three years from 2019 to 2022.
• The Lok Sabha has taken up discussion on the Supplementary Demands for Grants – First Batch for 2024-2025. The government has sought approval of Parliament to authorise gross additional expenditure of over 87 thousand 762 crore rupees.
• A parliamentary delegation from the Republic of Armenia, led by Alen Simonyan, President of the National Assembly of Armenia, called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

International Updates

• The Syrian Islamist leader, whose group led the offensive that toppled Bashar al-Assad, met with UN envoy Geir Pedersen, who was visiting Damascus, said a statement on the rebels’ Telegram channel.
• Russia has evacuated some of its diplomats out of the Syrian capital Damascus, while its embassy continues to function
• Indian and Bangladeshi armed forces came together to commemorate the 53rd anniversary of the Liberation War of 1971 on the occasion of the Bijoy Diwas.
• The head of the Interim Government of Bangladesh Dr Muhammad Yunus said the next general election can be held between the end of 2025 and the first half of 2026 after accomplishing necessary reforms.
• Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President-elect Donald Trump have discussed developments in Syria and hostages held by Hamas. Both leaders spoke on the phone to discuss the recent push to secure the release of Israeli and foreign hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.
• The Israeli government has unanimously approved a comprehensive plan to expand settlements in the occupied Golan Heights, allocating more than $11.13 million to the initiative.
• Philippines ordered local government units to complete the evacuation of people within the six-kilometre danger zone around Mount Kanlaon volcano amid rising activity. The order was issued by Raul Fernandez, director of the Office of Civil Defense in Western Visayas.
• Moldova has signed the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Framework Agreement and officially joined the ISA.

• In Hockey, India won the Women’s Junior Asia Cup 2024 championship in Muscat, Oman. In the title clash, the Indian team defeated China 3-2 in a penalty shootout to successfully defend its title.
• In Domestic Cricket, Mumbai has won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024.
