National Updates

• Union Minister of Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh has hailed India’s first indigenously developed hydrogen fuel-powered sea vessel, describing it as a success story stemming from the joint efforts of the public and private sectors.

• Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met a delegation from American Businessman Elon Musk-owned satellite internet services company Starlink.

• The Union Education Ministry will work together with the Road, Transport and Highways Ministry for expanding the Sadak Suraksha Abhiyaan to schools across the country.

• Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna has recommended the name of Justice B R Gavai as the next Chief Justice. Justice Gavai is the second-most senior judge of the Supreme Court, and his name has been recommended to the Union Law Ministry.

• The Supreme Court today not issued any interim order on the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 while hearing a batch of petitions challenging it. The Centre asked for more time to prepare its argument on the three points raised by the apex court.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation with the President of Finland Alexander Stubb. During the conversation, both leaders exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, including the situation in Ukraine.

• The 6th edition of India-Uzbekistan Joint Military Exercise DUSTLIK-6 commenced at the Foreign Training Node at Aundh in Pune, Maharashtra. Indian contingent comprising 60 personnel is being represented by a Battalion of JAT Regiment and the Indian Air Force.

• India’s total exports of goods and services registered a growth of 5.5 per cent, reaching a record 820.93 billion dollars during April- March 2024-25, compared to 778.13 billion dollars in the previous fiscal year.

• केंद्रीय विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी मंत्री डॉ जितेंद्र सिंह ने भारत के पहले स्वदेशी रूप से विकसित हाइड्रोजन ईंधन से चलने वाले समुद्री पोत की सराहना करते हुए इसे सार्वजनिक और निजी क्षेत्रों के संयुक्त प्रयासों से उपजी सफलता की कहानी बताया है।
• वाणिज्य एवं उद्योग मंत्री पीयूष गोयल ने अमेरिकी बिजनेसमैन एलन मस्क के स्वामित्व वाली सैटेलाइट इंटरनेट सेवा कंपनी स्टारलिंक के एक प्रतिनिधिमंडल से मुलाकात की।
• सड़क, परिवहन और राजमार्ग मंत्रालय के साथ मिलकर केंद्रीय शिक्षा मंत्रालय सड़क, परिवहन और राजमार्ग मंत्रालय के साथ मिलकर देश भर के स्कूलों में सड़क सुरक्षा अभियान के विस्तार के लिए काम करेगा।
• भारत के मुख्य न्यायाधीश संजीव खन्ना ने अगले मुख्य न्यायाधीश के रूप में न्यायमूर्ति बी आर गवई के नाम की सिफारिश की है। जस्टिस गवई सुप्रीम कोर्ट के दूसरे सबसे वरिष्ठ जज हैं, और उनके नाम की सिफारिश केंद्रीय कानून मंत्रालय से की गई है।
• सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने आज वक्फ (संशोधन) अधिनियम २०२५ को चुनौती देने वाली याचिकाओं के एक बैच की सुनवाई करते हुए इस पर कोई अंतरिम आदेश जारी नहीं किया। केंद्र ने शीर्ष अदालत द्वारा उठाए गए तीन बिंदुओं पर अपनी दलील तैयार करने के लिए और समय मांगा।

• Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said that the principle of his country’s uranium enrichment is non-negotiable. According to the official news agency IRNA, he made the remarks in an address to reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting.

• The United States carried out extensive airstrikes against Houthi targets across Yemen. US aircraft reportedly struck more than 50 Houthi sites across multiple provinces in the north, centre and west of Yemen.

• Hongkong Post is suspending the shipment of goods to the United States in response to the US decision to eliminate the duty-free treatment for items sent from Hong Kong to the US.

• Member states of the World Health Organization (WHO) finalized a historic agreement to prepare the world for future pandemics, following negotiations that spanned over three years.

• Peru’s former president, Ollanta Humala, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in a money laundering case. A court in the capital, Lima, found him guilty of accepting illegal funds from the Venezuelan government and from a Brazilian construction company to bankroll his election campaigns in 2006.

• The Supreme Court of Nepal has ordered the closure of the brick kilns operating in Panchkhal municipality in the Kavre District of the country, citing their serious impacts on the environment and public health.

• US President Donald Trump’s administration has announced a sweeping new retaliatory tariffs of up to 245 per cent on imports of Chinese goods, sharply escalating the trade conflict between the two countries.

• In the Men’s javelin throw, Yash Vir Singh clinched the title by narrowly edging out Asian Games silver medallist Kishore Jena at the Indian Open Athletics 2025 meet in Chennai. Yash Vir recorded his best throw of 77.49m on his fifth attempt.
