National Updates

  • The Supreme Court ordered the construction and availability of separate toilet facilities for males, females, PwD, and transgender persons in all court premises and tribunals across the country.
  • Pralhad Joshi held a virtual meeting with the Food Ministers of five states to review the preparedness for wheat procurement in the ensuing Rabi Marketing Season 2025-26.
  • Meta India has apologised for its CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s statement that the incumbent government in India lost elections in 2024 due to its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The grand and divine Mahakumbh is capturing global attention. As part of this, a 21-member delegation from 10 countries will take a holy dip at the Sangam today.
  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the ‘Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Programme’ at Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Cochin and Ahmedabad airports today.
  • Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Chairperson of Congress Parliamentary Party Sonia Gandhi inaugurated the party’s new Headquarters ‘Indira Bhawan’ in New Delhi.

International Updates

  • South Korea’s impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol was arrested \ by law enforcement officials. Yoon, who was impeached and charged with insurrection over his short-lived effort to impose martial law last month.
  • Israeli forces intensified their assault on Gaza, struck approximately 50 sites. Israeli authorities said the airstrikes targeted militants, weapons storage facilities, underground infrastructure, anti-tank fire positions, and Hamas military structures.
  • India and Singapore discussed cooperation in semiconductors, industrial parks, skilling, digitalisation and trade development. External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar held a meeting with the visiting President of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam in New Delhi.
  • Romania has bolstered its military presence on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s (NATO) Eastern Flank as of January 2025, deploying units to Slovakia and Bulgaria. The country’s Ministry of National Defence announced that this is in addition to its ongoing participation in Poland.
  • Strengthening the development partnership between the two nations, India and Sri Lanka signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the supply of 80 single cabs to police stations in Sri Lanka’s Northern Province.
  • In Bangladesh, the Supreme Court today acquitted Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman and others in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. The court headed by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed pronounced the verdict unanimously acquitting Khaleda, former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, and others.
  • In South Africa, rescuers have pulled out 60 bodies and 106 survivors from an illegal gold mine during two days of rescue operations.

 

Sports Updates

  • In the Kho Kho World Cup 2025, the Indian women’s team achieved a remarkable victory against Iran with a score of 100-16 at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi.
  • In Women’s Cricket, India registered its largest-ever win by 304 runs defeating Ireland in the 3rd ODI of the three-match series in Rajkot, Gujarat.
