National Updates

  • Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh chaired a high-level review of ISRO’s major upcoming space missions including India’s first “uncrewed” orbital mission under “Gaganyaan”.
  • Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today emphasized that the Indian and Scottish Parliaments need to learn from their experiences in the use of Artificial Intelligence. Mr Birla shared these remarks at a meeting with the First Minister of Scotland, John Swinney, as part of his visit to England, Scotland.
  • President Droupadi Murmu arrived at Bhubaneswar on a two-day visit to her home state Odisha.
  • Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said that organic farming has become a powerful medium for generating better income and employment. Launching the 8th edition of the National Program for Organic Production in New Delhi today, Mr Goyal stated this.
  • Over two crore 70 lakh registrations have been received from students, teachers, and parents across the country and abroad for the 8th edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha 2025.
  • Around ten thousand Special Guests have been invited to witness the Republic Day Parade this year. These special guests include Sarpanches, Disaster Relief Workers, Best Performing Water Warriors, Handloom and Handicraft Artisans.

 

International Updates

  • The inferno sweeping Los Angeles, the entertainment capital of the US, has leapt onto the Hollywood Hills, endangering fabled landmarks in the area today. Nearly 150,000 people were under evacuation orders as the fires burned down 7,000 hectares, killed at least five people.
  • The US-British coalition reportedly launched airstrikes on several parts of northern Yemen, including its capital, Sanaa.
  • Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was celebrated in Kathmandu to recognize the contributions of the Indian diaspora to India’s development and to strengthen the bond between India and its Nepali diaspora.
  • Ten fishermen from Nagapattinam in Tamilnadu and Karaikal were arrested by the Srilankan Navy for trespassing into international waters. The fishermen were later taken to the Navy camp at Kankesanthurai Port Srilanka for further questioning.
  • In Bangladesh, four persons were killed and 15 others injured as a gas cylinder in an ambulance exploded following a collision with a bus in Savar on the Dhaka-Aricha highway.
  • Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Dissanayake launched a National Initiative for R&D Commercialization. The initiative aims to transform research into value-added products, fostering economic growth and social progress.
  • In Egypt, archaeologists have unearthed significant finds near Luxor, including parts of a temple linked to Queen Hatshepsut.

 

Sports Updates

  • In Malaysia Open Badminton, the Indian pair of Chirag Shetty and S Rankireddy entered the Men’s doubles quarterfinals. Chirag and Rankireddy defeated Malaysia’s Tan Wee Kiong and Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub in the round of 16 fixture in Kuala Lumpur.
  • In Tennis, India’s Yuki Bhambri and his French partner Albano Olivetti defeated the third-seeded British duo of Lloyd Glasspool and Julian Cash to reach the Men’s Doubles semifinals of the ASB Classic at Auckland in New Zealand.
  • New Zealand Cricketer, Martin Guptill announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 38. Guptill’s career spanned around 14 years during which he scored over 14 thousand runs in 367 matches.
