National Updates

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauded the BAPS efforts to evacuate Indian nationals during the war in Ukraine. He said, extensive humanitarian work by BAPS has strengthened India’s power and influence globally.
• In Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu is set to host the grand finale of the Smart India Hackathon 2024 (Software Edition) from December 11.
• Nationwide 100-day TB eradication campaign launched
• President Droupadi Murmu laid the foundation stones for different projects including three railway projects of worth 6,294 crore rupees in north Odisha, connecting Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj districts.
• Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the second pre-budget consultation with various farmer associations and leading agricultural economists in connection with the forthcoming Union Budget 2025-26 in New Delhi
• A nationwide campaign ‘Prashasan Gaon Ki Ore’ will be launched on 19th of December during the Good Governance Week. The one-week programme will be held till 24th of December.

International Updates

• In the United Kingdom, thousands of homes across the country were plunged into darkness as Storm Darragh unleashed powerful winds and widespread disruption. The UK’s Met Office issued a rare red warning, its highest alert level, urging residents in Wales and southwest England to remain indoors.
• In France, the iconic Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris is reopening its doors, five-and-a-half years after a devastating fire nearly destroyed the 861-year-old landmark.
• The High Commission of India in Bangladesh organized a musical evening on Friday at the Indian Cultural Centre in Dhaka to mark the 53rd anniversary of “Maitri Diwas”.
• In Syria, the government forces have lost control of Daraa city, widely regarded as the birthplace of Syria’s 2011 civil uprising.

• In Cricket, Australia continued to dominate the ongoing second Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India at Adelaide Oval. The visitors were 128 for 5 at the draw of stumps on Day 2
• In the World Chess Championship, the tenth game between Indian Grandmaster Dommaraju Gukesh and defending champion Ding Liren of China ended in a draw in Singapore
