• The Defence Acquisition Council has approved five capital acquisition proposals amounting to over 21 thousand 772 crore rupees. The council under the Chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi has granted Acceptance of Necessity for the procurement of 31 New Water Jet Fast Attackers.
• On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2024, the government launched sixteen initiatives in New Delhi to empower Divyangjans across the nation.
• The Lok Sabha has passed the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The Bill seeks to amend the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, the State Bank of India Act, 1955, the Banking Companies (Acquisition and Transfer of Undertakings) Act, 1970
• The Rajya Sabha today took up the Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak 2024 for discussion. The Lok Sabha has already passed the Bill in the Monsoon session this year.
• The Rajya Sabha today gave its nod to the Oilfield (Regulation and Development) Amendment Bill 2024. The Bill amends the Oilfields (Regulation and Development) Act, 1948. It expands the definition of Mineral oils, which include naturally occurring hydrocarbon, coal bed methane, and shale gas.
• Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav highlighted India’s comprehensive approach to combating land degradation and desertification at COP16 of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification
• President Droupadi Murmu today conferred the National Awards for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities to 33 exemplary individuals and institutions on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities

• South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has declared “emergency martial law” calling it a necessary measure to protect the country from North Korea’s communist forces and to eliminate anti-state elements
• In Sri Lanka, the cabinet has approved amending the Local Government Act to allow fresh nominations to be called for the Local Government Election.
• An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Pakistan issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, and 93 other party leaders.
• Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved the country’s budget for 2025, which includes record-breaking spending on military needs amid Moscow’s ongoing assault against Ukraine.The budget allocates about 126 billion U.S. dollars to national defense.
• Senior Presidential Advisor Duminda Hulangamuwa has hinted that Sri Lanka’s public sector workforce will face significant downsizing in the coming years
• US President-elect Donald Trump has issued an ultimatum to terrorist group Hamas of massive repercussions if hostages are not released by the time he takes office.
• US President-elect Donald Trump has nominated businessman Warren Stephens as ambassador to the United Kingdom. In a social media post, Mr. Trump also praised Stephens as a successful businessman in the country
• The United States has announced a new 725 million dollars military aid package for Ukraine that features a second tranche of landmines as well as anti-air and anti-armour weapons.

Sports Updates

• The Asian Women’s Handball Championship has begun in New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium . India is hosting the handball competition for the first time. Eight teams from the continent are taking part in the 20th edition of the tournament.
• India’s Pavan Kampelli has secured a bronze medal in the e-football event at the 2024 Asian Esports Games in Bangkok, Thailand, yesterday. This is the first-ever medal for India at the Asian Esports Games.
