• Secretary (West) of the External Affairs Ministry, Sibi George, called on the Speaker of Alþingi – the Parliament of Iceland, Mrs Þórunn Sveinbjarnardóttir. In a social media post, the External Affairs Ministry said that during the meeting, they discussed issues of common interest.

• The Rajya Sabha today resumed discussion on the Appropriation (No. 2) Bill, 2026. It seeks to authorise payment and appropriation of certain sums from and out of the Consolidated Fund of India for the services of the financial year 2026-27.

• External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar met Iran’s ambassador to India, Dr. Mohammad Fathali. In a social media post, Dr Jaishankar said that during their meeting, they discussed the conflict in West Asia.

• The 4th Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) between India and Iceland were held yesterday in Reykjavik. During the consultation, both sides reviewed the status of cooperation in all fields, including political, trade and investment; implementation of India-EFTA-TEPA; geothermal energy; fisheries.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi today received a call from US President Donald Trump. In a social media post, Mr Modi said that during their conversation, they exchanged views on the situation in West Asia.

• Defence Minister Rajnath Singh took stock of the West Asia situation and its effect on India’s defence preparedness during a meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, Defence Secretary, Secretary (Defence Production) and Chairman, DRDO in New Delhi.

International Updates

• At the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Japanese human rights activist Shun Fujiki strongly criticised Pakistan over alleged human rights violations in Balochistan. Addressing the council, Fujiki claimed that in 2025 alone, over 1,200 cases of enforced disappearances.

• The Lebanon government ordered Iran’s ambassador to leave the country. The Lebanese Foreign Ministry said Tehran’s diplomatic representative in the war-torn country has to leave by Sunday, declaring him persona non grata – a formal designation used to expel a foreign diplomat.

• Vietnam and Russia signed a deal to build a nuclear power plant in Vietnam as the Southeast Asian country revives its nuclear plans. According to Vietnamese state media, the deal for the Ninh Thuan 1 plant comes after two similar projects were shelved in 2016 over rising costs and safety issues.

• Bahrain has put forward a draft United Nations Security Council resolution that would authorise countries to use, in the words of the text, “all necessary means” to protect commercial shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz.

• राज्यसभा ने आज विनियोग (सं. 2) बिल, 2026। इसका उद्देश्य वित्तीय वर्ष 2026-27 की सेवाओं के लिए भारत के समेकित कोष से कुछ राशियों के भुगतान और विनियोजन को अधिकृत करना है।
