National Updates

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana in the capital, Accra.

• The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has proposed amendments to the policy guidelines for Television Rating Agencies, originally issued in 2014. The proposed draft has removed some restrictive provisions for media houses to allow more players to democratise and modernise the television audience.

• Defence Acquisition Council, under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has accorded Acceptance of Necessity for ten capital acquisition proposals amounting to over one lakh crore through indigenous sourcing.

• Aadhaar number holders carried out nearly 230 crore Aadhaar authentication transactions in June this year, reflecting 7.8 per cent growth over the same month last year. The Electronics and IT Ministry said, the growth underlines the extensive usage and utility of Aadhaar.

• The Election Commission has informed the political parties that the Special Intensive Revision exercise in Bihar is being conducted in a planned, structured and phased manner to facilitate the inclusion of all eligible citizens.

• NITI Aayog launched a report titled Chemical Industry: Powering India’s Participation in Global Value Chains. The report aims to showcase an extensive analysis of India’s chemical sector, highlighting both opportunities and challenges, and outlining a pathway for positioning India as a key player in the chemical industry.

• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), to improve access to affordable credit for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) and individual borrowers, has prohibited regulated entities, including banks and other lenders, from imposing pre-payment penalties on many floating-rate loans.

• Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurated the first National Conference of Chairpersons of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of States and Union Territories in Manesar, Gurugram. The theme of the two-day conference is “Role of Urban Local Bodies in Strengthening Constitutional Democracy and Nation Building.

• Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated two National Highway projects worth 2,456 crore rupees in Garhwa. Mr. Gadkari, who is on a visit to Jharkhand, also announced that 2 lakh crore rupees worth of highway projects will be implemented in the state, ensuring rapid development.

• Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, the first Indian astronaut on the International Space Station, is working to develop a brain-computer interface in the orbital lab.

• प्रधान मंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने राजधानी अकरा में घाना गणराज्य की संसद को संबोधित किया।
• सूचना एवं प्रसारण मंत्रालय ने टेलीविजन रेटिंग एजेंसियों के लिए मूल रूप से 2014 में जारी नीति दिशानिर्देशों में संशोधन का प्रस्ताव दिया है। प्रस्तावित मसौदे में मीडिया घरानों के लिए कुछ प्रतिबंधात्मक प्रावधानों को हटा दिया गया है, ताकि अधिक खिलाड़ियों को टेलीविजन दर्शकों का लोकतंत्रीकरण और आधुनिकीकरण करने की अनुमति मिल सके।
• रक्षा मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह की अध्यक्षता में रक्षा अधिग्रहण परिषद ने स्वदेशी सोर्सिंग के माध्यम से एक लाख करोड़ से अधिक की राशि के दस पूंजी अधिग्रहण प्रस्तावों को आवश्यकता की स्वीकृति प्रदान की है।
• आधार नंबर धारकों ने इस वर्ष जून में लगभग 230 करोड़ आधार प्रमाणीकरण लेनदेन किए, जो पिछले वर्ष इसी महीने की तुलना में 7.8 प्रतिशत की वृद्धि दर्शाता है। इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स एवं आईटी मंत्रालय ने कहा कि यह वृद्धि आधार के व्यापक उपयोग और उपयोगिता को रेखांकित करती है।
• चुनाव आयोग ने राजनीतिक दलों को सूचित किया है कि बिहार में विशेष गहन संशोधन अभ्यास सभी पात्र नागरिकों को शामिल करने की सुविधा के लिए योजनाबद्ध, संरचित और चरणबद्ध तरीके से आयोजित किया जा रहा है।
• नीति आयोग ने रासायनिक उद्योग: वैश्विक मूल्य श्रृंखलाओं में भारत की भागीदारी को सशक्त बनाना शीर्षक से एक रिपोर्ट जारी की। रिपोर्ट का उद्देश्य भारत के रासायनिक क्षेत्र का व्यापक विश्लेषण प्रस्तुत करना, अवसरों और चुनौतियों दोनों पर प्रकाश डालना तथा रासायनिक उद्योग में भारत को एक प्रमुख खिलाड़ी के रूप में स्थापित करने के मार्ग की रूपरेखा प्रस्तुत करना है।
• भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक (आरबीआई) ने सूक्ष्म एवं लघु उद्यमों (एमएसई) और व्यक्तिगत उधारकर्ताओं के लिए किफायती ऋण तक पहुंच में सुधार करने के लिए बैंकों और अन्य उधारदाताओं सहित विनियमित संस्थाओं को कई फ्लोटिंग-रेट ऋणों पर पूर्व-भुगतान दंड लगाने से प्रतिबंधित कर दिया है।
• लोकसभा अध्यक्ष ओम बिड़ला ने गुरुग्राम के मानेसर में राज्यों और केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों के शहरी स्थानीय निकायों (यूएलबी) के अध्यक्षों के पहले राष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन का उद्घाटन किया। दो दिवसीय सम्मेलन का विषय है “संवैधानिक लोकतंत्र और राष्ट्र निर्माण को मजबूत करने में शहरी स्थानीय निकायों की भूमिका।
• केंद्रीय मंत्री नितिन गडकरी ने गढ़वा में २,४५६ करोड़ रुपये की दो राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग परियोजनाओं का उद्घाटन किया। झारखंड की यात्रा पर आए श्री गडकरी ने यह भी घोषणा की कि राज्य में 2 लाख करोड़ रुपये की राजमार्ग परियोजनाएं क्रियान्वित की जाएंगी, जिससे तीव्र विकास सुनिश्चित होगा।
• अंतर्राष्ट्रीय अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन पर पहले भारतीय अंतरिक्ष यात्री, भारतीय वायु सेना समूह के कैप्टन शुभांशु शुक्ला, कक्षीय प्रयोगशाला में मस्तिष्क-कंप्यूटर इंटरफ़ेस विकसित करने के लिए काम कर रहे हैं।

International Updates

• In the US, four people were killed and 14 others injured in a mass shooting late last night in Chicago’s River North neighbourhood. Media reports said, at least three victims remain in critical condition. The shooting occurred outside a restaurant and lounge that was hosting an album release.

• The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said that they have detained a 23-year-old Russian woman in St. Petersburg for allegedly preparing a terrorist attack ordered by the Ukrainian Special Services. She was detained while allegedly in the process of planting the Improvised Explosive Device.

• The Commerce and Industry Ministry has organised a Mango Promotion Programme in Abu Dhabi as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the global presence of Indian agricultural products, particularly mangoes. The event marked the launch of ‘Indian Mango Mania 2025’-a vibrant in-store mango festival.

• In Pakistan, several human rights organisations have raised concerns about the forcible disappearance of six men from multiple districts of Balochistan carried out by the Pakistani forces.

• Sri Lanka becomes the latest Asian nation to join Starlink’s network, following Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Mongolia, and Indonesia. Coverage is now live across the island, with monthly plans for residential users and for businesses.

• अमेरिका में शिकागो के रिवर नॉर्थ इलाके में कल देर रात हुई सामूहिक गोलीबारी में चार लोग मारे गए और 14 अन्य घायल हो गए। मीडिया रिपोर्टों के अनुसार, कम से कम तीन पीड़ितों की हालत गंभीर बनी हुई है। गोलीबारी एक रेस्तरां और लाउंज के बाहर हुई जहां एक एल्बम रिलीज़ हो रही थी।
• रूसी संघीय सुरक्षा सेवा (एफएसबी) ने कहा कि उन्होंने यूक्रेनी विशेष सेवाओं द्वारा आदेशित आतंकवादी हमले की कथित तैयारी के लिए सेंट पीटर्सबर्ग में एक 23 वर्षीय रूसी महिला को हिरासत में लिया है। कथित तौर पर इम्प्रोवाइज्ड एक्सप्लोसिव डिवाइस लगाने की प्रक्रिया के दौरान उसे हिरासत में लिया गया था।
• वाणिज्य एवं उद्योग मंत्रालय ने भारतीय कृषि उत्पादों, विशेषकर आमों की वैश्विक उपस्थिति बढ़ाने के अपने सतत प्रयासों के तहत अबू धाबी में आम संवर्धन कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया है। इस कार्यक्रम के साथ ‘इंडियन मैंगो मेनिया 2025’ का शुभारंभ हुआ – जो एक जीवंत इन-स्टोर आम महोत्सव है।

• In Wimbledon Tennis, India’s N Sriram Balaji entered the second round of the Men’s Doubles event in London today. Balaji and his Mexican partner, Miguel Reyes-Varela, defeated the American duo of Learner Tien and Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-4, 6-4 in an opening round match.

• The first-ever Khelo India Water Sports Festival will be held at Srinagar’s iconic Dal Lake from the 21st of August. This was announced by the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya.

• Liverpool star footballer Diogo Jota died at the age of 28 in a devastating car crash in the Spanish province of Zamora. The Portugal forward’s brother, Andre Silva, also died in the mishap. The 26-year-old was also a professional footballer with Portuguese second-tier club Penafiel.

• India delivered a dominant 5-0 win over Iraq in the AFC Women’s Football Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers at the 700th Anniversary Stadium in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

• विंबलडन टेनिस में भारत के एन श्रीराम बालाजी ने आज लंदन में पुरुष युगल स्पर्धा के दूसरे दौर में प्रवेश किया। बालाजी और उनके मैक्सिकन साथी मिगुएल रेयेस-वेरेला ने शुरुआती दौर के मैच में लर्नर टीएन और अलेक्जेंडर कोवासेविक की अमेरिकी जोड़ी को 6-4, 6-4 से हराया।
• पहला खेलो इंडिया जल क्रीड़ा महोत्सव 21 अगस्त से श्रीनगर की प्रतिष्ठित डल झील पर आयोजित किया जाएगा। इसकी घोषणा केंद्रीय युवा मामले एवं खेल मंत्री डॉ. मनसुख मंडाविया ने की।
• लिवरपूल के स्टार फुटबॉलर डिओगो जोटा की 28 वर्ष की आयु में स्पेन के ज़मोरा प्रांत में एक विनाशकारी कार दुर्घटना में मृत्यु हो गई। इस दुर्घटना में पुर्तगाल फॉरवर्ड के भाई आंद्रे सिल्वा की भी मृत्यु हो गई। 26 वर्षीय यह खिलाड़ी पुर्तगाली द्वितीय श्रेणी क्लब पेनाफिल का पेशेवर फुटबॉलर भी था।
• भारत ने थाईलैंड के चियांग माई में 700वीं वर्षगांठ स्टेडियम में एएफसी महिला फुटबॉल एशियाई कप 2026 क्वालीफायर में इराक पर 5-0 से प्रभावशाली जीत हासिल की।
