SONGKRAN

Songkran is a traditional Thai festival that marks the beginning of the Thai New Year. It is celebrated annually from April 13th to April 15th. The festival is known for its exuberant water fights and is one of the most anticipated events in Thailand.

During Songkran, people participate in water-related activities as a way to cleanse and purify themselves for the new year. Traditionally, water is poured gently over Buddha statues and the hands of elders as a sign of respect and blessing. However, in modern times, Songkran has evolved into a nationwide water fight, with people dousing each other with water guns, buckets, and hoses.

The water fights are accompanied by music, dancing, and street parties, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the country. In addition to the water fights, Songkran is also a time for family reunions, temple visits, and making merit by offering food and donations to monks.

Songkran is deeply rooted in Thai culture and tradition, and it is celebrated with enthusiasm and joy by people of all ages. It is not only a time for fun and revelry but also a time for reflection, renewal, and gratitude for the blessings of the past year.
