1783: यू.एस. जनरल जॉर्ज वाशिंगटन ने न्यूयॉर्क शहर में अपने अधिकारियों को अलविदा कहा।
१७९१: दुनिया का पहला संडे अखबार माना जाने वाला द ऑब्जर्वर ब्रिटेन में प्रकाशित हुआ।
१८२९: ब्रिटिश गवर्नर-जनरल लॉर्ड विलियम बेंटिक ने घोषणा की कि बंगाल में सती प्रथा में सहायता करना गैर इरादतन हत्या है।
1872: मैरी सेलेस्टे नामक अमेरिकी ब्रिगेंटाइन जहाज अटलांटिक महासागर में लावारिस अवस्था में पाया गया, तथा इसके चालक दल का भाग्य अज्ञात था।
1956: एल्विस प्रेस्ली, जॉनी कैश, जेरी ली लुईस और कार्ल पर्किन्स, जिन्हें “मिलियन डॉलर क्वार्टेट” के नाम से जाना जाता था, का एकमात्र संयुक्त रिकॉर्डिंग सत्र हुआ।
१९६९: शिकागो में पुलिस छापे के दौरान ब्लैक पैंथर पार्टी के नेता फ्रेड हैम्पटन की मौत हो गई थी।
