Powerful Hindu Mantras

Shri Ganesh Mantra

We have this Ganesh mantra as our first mantra since it is said that all spiritual ceremonies cannot be fulfilled without chanting this prayer in the beginning:

Bakratunda maha-kaaya Suryakoti Samaprabha
Nirvinghnam Kuru Me Deva Sarva-Kaaryessu Sarvadaa

वक्रतुण्ड महाकाय सूर्यकोटि समप्रभ । निर्विघ्नं कुरु मे देव सर्वकार्येषु सर्वदा ॥

Translation:

Oh Lord Ganesha, of curved trunk, large body and the brilliance of a million suns
Please make all my works free of obstacles

Importance: It’s a Vedic mantra and can have following benefits:

  • Remove obstacles in the journey of one’s work and strive towards success
  • Add peace and calmness
  • Add brilliance to work
  • Remove evil influences and negative thoughts

Gayatri Mantra

Gayatri mantra is a mantra that’s to be chanted 108 times.

Om Bhur Bhuvah Svah 

Tat Savitur Varenyam 

Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi

Dhiyo Yo Naha Prachodayat

ॐ भूर्भुव: स्व: तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं । भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि, धीयो यो न: प्रचोदयात् ।।

Translation:

Om, the divine illumination which pervades the Bhu Loka, the physical plane, Bhuvar Loka, the intermediate space and Swar Loka, the heaven (Swarga). On that savitur (Divine illumination) which is the most delightful (varenyam) And which is of divine effulgence. May that divine illuminate/awaken our spiritual consciousness

Importance: Gayatri is the mother of all Vedas with the power of wiping off all sins. The words in the mantra are arranged such that it creates a powerful impact on the mind, soul, and the body. These are some benefits:

  • Improve breathing pattern
  • Enhance nerve and heart functioning
  • Reduce stress and improve learning capacity
  • Brings prosperity and development

Om Namah Shivaya

It’s a healing mantra

Om Namah Shivaya

ॐ नमः शिवाय;

Translation:

Adoration to Lord Shiva

Importance: The mantra focuses on Shiva who is understood to be the concluding part of the trinity, which includes Brahma and Vishnu. The repetition of the mantra is such that the last syllable of the mantra is the doorway to Shiva-consciousness, moving from the end to a new beginning. Chanting the mantra can have following benefits:

  • Lifts one’s spirit into previously unexplored planes of existence
  • It’s a great stress buster
  • Reignites the chi of the body and creates path for positive energy
  • Boosts peace

Mahalaxmi mantra

 

For virtue, wealth, desire, ascension, Mahalaxmi Mantra is a very popular mantra.

Angam Hare Pulaka-bhusanama-ashrayanti

Bhringa-anganeva mukula-abharannam tamaalam

Anngii-krta-akhila-vibhuutir-apaanga-liila

Maanggalya-daa-atsu mama manggala-devataayaah

अङ्गं हरेः पुलकभूषणमाश्रयन्ती
भृङ्गाङ्गनेव मुकुलाभरणं तमालम् ।
अङ्गीकृताखिलविभूतिरपाङ्गलीला
माङ्गल्यदास्तु मम मङ्गलदेवतायाः ॥१॥

Translation:

Salutation to Mother Laxmi, who always dwells in the body of Hari like an ornament of Ecstatic delight.Like the bees which delightfully decorate the half-open flowers of the tree
Who has contained within her body the entire opulence of universe through her divine glance may that glance bring auspiciousness in my life.

Importance: Laxmi, known for wealth, richness, beauty, youth and health, helps in finance and relationships. Other benefits are:

  • Help in job promotions
  • For those in business, for increased profits and attracting customers
  • Peace of mind
  • Produces an energy of fortune

Maa Saraswati

Known as the goddess of education and music, Saraswati is prayed to for excelling in educational and art field.

Ya Kundendu-tushar-haar-dhawala ya Shubra-bastrabrita

Ya Bina-bar-danda-mandit-kara ya Shwetpadhma-asana

Ya Brahma-achyutashankaraprabhritibhirdevaih sadaa Pujita

Saa Maam Paatu Sarasvati Bhagavatii Nihshessa-Jaaddya-Apahaa

या कुन्देन्दुतुषारहारधवला या शुभ्रवस्त्रावृता या वीणावरदण्डमण्डितकरा या श्वेतपद्मासना । या ब्रह्माच्युतशङ्करप्रभृतिभिर्देवैः सदा वन्दिता सा मां पातु सरस्वती भगवती निःशेष जाड्यापहा ॥१॥
