Early Life:

  • Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah was born in 1565 in Hyderabad, which was then a part of the Golconda Sultanate.
  • He was the son of Sultan Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah, the founder of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, and his wife Bhagmati, who was of Hindu descent.

Reign:

  • Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah ascended to the throne of the Golconda Sultanate in 1580 after the death of his father.
  • During his reign, he focused on the development and beautification of the city of Hyderabad, which he founded in 1591. He is credited with the construction of many significant monuments and structures in Hyderabad, including the Charminar, Mecca Masjid, and Qutb Shahi Tombs.
  • Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah was known for his patronage of arts, literature, and culture. He was a poet himself and wrote poetry in Persian and Telugu under the pen name “Taraqqi.”

Contributions:

  • Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah was a tolerant ruler who respected the diverse religious and cultural traditions of his subjects. He is said to have appointed Hindus to high positions in his administration and supported the construction of Hindu temples.
