National Updates
- India and China reviewed the state of bilateral relations comprehensively and agreed to take certain people-centric steps to stabilize and rebuild ties during the meeting of the Foreign Secretary-Vice Minister mechanism between India and China.
- Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi held bilateral interactions with the Chief of Staff of Indonesian Navy Admiral Muhammad Ali in Delhi. The interactions sought to deepen maritime cooperation and strengthen ties between the two countries.
- Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal had a meeting with Oman’s Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef on the first day of his visit to Muscat in Oman.
- Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat launched WAVES Bazaar, WAH Ustaad challenge and WAVES Awards in New Delhi. The Union Ministers also launched ‘Create in India Challenge’ Season 1.
- Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the Union Budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 on the 1st of next month. The upcoming budget is anticipated to unveil the government’s economic priorities and fiscal strategies to deal with the pressing domestic and global challenges.
- Border Security Force (BSF) has neutralized five Pakistani intruders at the Punjab border and has apprehended 30 Pak nationals during infiltration from Pakistan into Indian Territory, in the last year from January 2024 to January 26th, this year.
International Updates
- Tens of thousands of Palestinians displaced from northern Gaza began returning to the heavily destroyed region after Israel lifted its closure under a fragile truce brokered by international mediators.
- The Embassy of India in Laos has rescued 67 Indian youth from cyber-scam centres in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone, GTSEZ. The Embassy said in a statement that these youth were forced to work there under intimidation and abuse by criminal syndicates operating in GTSEZ.
- Belarus’ incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko has won the presidential election. Preliminary data from the Central Election Commission shows that Lukashenko received 86.82 per cent of the vote.
- Dhaka University, the centre of political activities in Bangladesh, suspended all classes and examinations on Monday due to clashes between students of the university with Dhaka College and six other colleges.
Sports Updates
- In Ladakh, the 5th edition of the Khelo India Winter Games concluded. During the event competitions were held for two winter sports categories- Ice Hockey and Ice Skating at three venues NDS Stadium, Gupuk Lakes and LSRC ground in Leh.
- India’s opener in women’s cricket, Smriti Mandhana, has been crowned the ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year. Smriti was named ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year for her outstanding performance in 2024.
- India’s fast-bowling spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, has been named the winner of the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year award for his exceptional performances in 2024. Bumrah took an astonishing 71 wickets while bowling 357 overs in 13 matches, at an average of 14.92 in 2024.
- The 8th round battle at Tata Steel Chess Masters 2025 between Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa and world champion D Gukesh ended in a draw after a tense and interesting fight at Wijk aan Zee in Netherlands.
