National Updates
- Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy carried out successful flight trials of the first-of-its-kind Naval Anti-Ship missile (NASM-SR) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha.
- In Bihar, seven new ministers were inducted into the Nitish Kumar-led cabinet in an expansion of councils of ministers. Governor Arif Mohammed Khan administered the oath of office to seven MLAs from the BJP quota in the oath ceremony held at Rajbhavan in Patna.
- Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh, inspected the Microbe Repository and other facilities at the CSIR-Institute of Microbial Technology (CSIR-IMTECH) in Chandigarh and took an update on the ongoing projects in the institute.
- External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar met the delegation from Poland who is in India to attend the Jamsaheb Memorial Youth Exchange programme. The delegation is on a visit to India from the 19th to the 27th of this month.
- Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, visited Ri Bhoi Aspirational District in Meghalaya to review the various developmental initiatives undertaken in the district.
- Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI, has seized cryptocurrencies of nearly 24 crore rupees in the GainBitcoin Scam.
International Updates
- Israeli and Hamas have agreed to resolve the latest impasse in the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire deal. According to a statement by the Egyptian government’s media office, the agreement between Israel and Hamas has been reached which will see the exchange of the final four bodies of hostages.
- The United States President Donald Trump has announced a new gold card investor visa programme for wealthy immigrants, replacing the existing EB-5 visa.
- The Australian government has launched a roadmap to strengthen and diversify its trade and investment ties with India. The roadmap released by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s office announced the country’s investment of 16 million dollars in the Australia-India Trade and Investment Accord.
- Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi visited the 3rd Division of the French Army at France’s Ganteaume Fort in Marseille. General Dwivedi, who is on a four-day official visit to France, was also briefed on the role of the division and the future roadmap of joint training between India and France.
- Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita will embark on a nine-day visit to Uruguay, Bahamas, Barbados, and Nicaragua from Friday. During his visit to Uruguay, the Minister will represent the country at the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect of Uruguay, Yamandu Orsi.
- Sri Lanka’s parliament passed the maiden budget of the National Peoples Power administration with 155 members of the 225-member assembly voting in favour and 46 against.
Sports Updates
- The government has constituted a six-member committee to revise the norms for providing financial assistance to National Sports Federations. According to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the committee will be headed by Joint Secretary (sports).
- In Chess, Indian grandmaster Koneru Humpy made a thrilling comeback in the seventh round in Monaco Women’s Grand Prix following her defeat in round 6. Humpy secured a crucial victory over Sarasadat Khadem of Spain.
