  • Silambam exponent K. Pajanivel of Puducherry has been conferred with the Padma Shri, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to traditional martial arts. Born on 30th January 1973 at Pooranankuppam in Puducherry, Pajanivel began his journey in Silambam under the guidance of Master Rajaram.

  • The Government has announced 131 Padma awards for the year 2026. The awards comprise five Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri. Among the awardees, 19 are women and 16 honours are being conferred posthumously.

  • President Droupadi Murmu has approved the conferment of the Jeevan Raksha Padak Series of Awards-2025 on 30 persons. This includes the Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak to six persons, the Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak to six persons, and the Jeevan Raksha Padak to 18 persons.

International Updates

  • UNESCO has announced an emergency assistance package to protect cultural heritage and sustain education in parts of Vietnam which were heavily affected by storms in November last year. The emergency assistance package is valued at around 740,000 dollars.

  • The Indian Coast Guard Ships (ICGS) Varaha and Atulya arrived today at the Port of Colombo for an official visit and were welcomed in accordance with naval traditions by the Navy.

  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced that Scotland will replace Bangladesh in Group C of the T20 World Cup, which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 onwards.

पुडुचेरी के सिलंबम प्रतिपादक के. पजानिवेल को पारंपरिक मार्शल आर्ट में उनके उत्कृष्ट योगदान के सम्मान में पद्म श्री से सम्मानित किया गया है। 30 जनवरी 1973 को पुडुचेरी के पूरनकुप्पम में जन्मे पजानिवेल ने मास्टर राजाराम के मार्गदर्शन में सिलंबम में अपनी यात्रा शुरू की।
• सरकार ने वर्ष 2026 के लिए 131 पद्मा पुरस्कारों की घोषणा की है। पुरस्कारों में पांच पद्म विभूषण, १३ पद्म भूषण और ११३ पद्म श्री शामिल हैं। पुरस्कार विजेताओं में १९ महिलाएं हैं और १६ सम्मान मरणोपरांत प्रदान किए जा रहे हैं।
• राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मू ने 30 व्यक्तियों को जीवन रक्षा पदक श्रृंखला पुरस्कार-2025 प्रदान करने को मंजूरी दे दी है। इसमें छह व्यक्तियों के लिए सर्वोत्तम जीवन रक्षा पदक, छह व्यक्तियों के लिए उत्तम जीवन रक्षा पदक और 18 व्यक्तियों के लिए जीवन रक्षा पदक शामिल हैं।
