National Updates

• Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has resigned citing health reasons. In a letter written to President Droupadi Murmu, Mr Dhankhar said that to prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, he has resigned as the Vice President of India, effective immediately.

• The Maharashtra government is considering challenging the Bombay High Court’s decision to acquit all 12 accused in the 2006 Mumbai train blasts case.

• Several Members of Parliament submitted a memorandum to the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to remove Justice Yashwant Varma. A total of  145 Lok Sabha members have  signed the impeachment motion against Justice Verma under Articles 124, 217, and 218 of the Constitution.        

• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand till todayt. Heavy rainfall is likely over West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab during the next two days.

• Parliament has passed the Bills of Lading Bill 2025 with the Rajya Sabha approving it. The Lok Sabha has already passed the legislation in March this year.

• उपराष्ट्रपति जगदीप धनखर ने स्वास्थ्य कारणों का हवाला देते हुए इस्तीफा दे दिया है। राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मू को लिखे पत्र में श्री धनखर ने कहा कि स्वास्थ्य देखभाल को प्राथमिकता देने और चिकित्सा सलाह का पालन करने के लिए उन्होंने तत्काल प्रभाव से भारत के उपराष्ट्रपति पद से इस्तीफा दे दिया है।
• महाराष्ट्र सरकार २००६ के मुंबई ट्रेन विस्फोट मामले में सभी १२ आरोपियों को बरी करने के बॉम्बे उच्च न्यायालय के फैसले को चुनौती देने पर विचार कर रही है।
• कई संसद सदस्यों ने न्यायमूर्ति यशवंत वर्मा को हटाने के लिए लोकसभा अध्यक्ष ओम बिड़ला को एक ज्ञापन सौंपा। कुल १४५ लोकसभा सदस्यों ने संविधान के अनुच्छेद १२४, २१७ और २१८ के तहत न्यायमूर्ति वर्मा के खिलाफ महाभियोग प्रस्ताव पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं।
• भारतीय मौसम विभाग (आईएमडी) ने आज तक हिमाचल प्रदेश और उत्तराखंड में भारी से बहुत भारी वर्षा का अनुमान लगाया है। अगले दो दिनों में पश्चिम उत्तर प्रदेश, हरियाणा, पंजाब में भारी वर्षा होने की संभावना है।
• संसद ने बिल ऑफ लैडिंग बिल 2025 को राज्यसभा की मंजूरी के साथ पारित कर दिया है। लोकसभा इस साल मार्च में पहले ही कानून पारित कर चुकी है।

International Updates:

• In Bangladesh, at least 20 people were killed and 171 were injured when an Air Force training jet crashed into Milestone College campus in Dhaka this afternoon. The dead include the pilot of the aircraft.

• Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has said, Russia is ready to move quickly towards a settlement on Ukraine, but the main objective is to achieve its goals.

• Vietnam and Laos brace for nature’s fury, as Typhoon Wipha barrels in with torrential rains, fierce winds, and crackling thunderstorms. In Vietnam, northern and central localities have taken precautionary measures to mitigate the potential impacts of Typhoon Wipha, which is expected to make landfall today.

• The Israeli military has confirmed that it struck targets at the port of Hodeidah in Yemen, claiming the facilities were being used by the Houthi movement for military purposes.

• South Korea has said that it will work to achieve the best possible outcome in the ongoing tariff negotiations with the United States in terms of national interest.

• बांग्लादेश में आज दोपहर वायु सेना का एक प्रशिक्षण जेट विमान ढाका के माइलस्टोन कॉलेज परिसर में दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गया, जिसमें कम से कम 20 लोग मारे गए और 171 घायल हो गए। मृतकों में विमान का पायलट भी शामिल है।
• क्रेमलिन के प्रवक्ता दिमित्री पेसकोव ने कहा है, रूस यूक्रेन पर समझौते की दिशा में तेजी से आगे बढ़ने के लिए तैयार है, लेकिन मुख्य उद्देश्य अपने लक्ष्यों को प्राप्त करना है।

• India will host the Chess World Cup 2025, scheduled for October 30 to November 27.

• India’s Anahat Singh, Aradhya Porwal, Anika Dubey, Navya Sundararajan and Rudra Singh have advanced to the Women’s singles Round of 64 in World Junior Squash Championships which began in Cairo.

• In FIDE Women’s Chess World Cup 2025, Koneru Humpy created history by becoming the first-ever Indian woman to reach the semifinals in Batumi, Georgia

• In Wrestling, under-23 Asian champion Sumit won the silver medal in the 60kg Greco-Roman category at the Polyak Imre & Varga Janos Memorial 2025 wrestling tournament in Budapest, Hungary.
