National Updates

  • Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy said the Centre will soon launch the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM) to enhance domestic production, reduce import dependence, and encourage offshore mining auctions while urging states to cooperate for sustained mining activities.
  • Two Maoists have been killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district.
  • In Jammu & Kashmir, an army soldier was killed after sustaining critical wounds during an anti-terror operation in the forests of Zaloora Gujjarpati, Sopore area, of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
  • Union Labour and Employment Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya said that the labour board will soon bring gig workers under social security. Dr Mandaviya made this statement after inaugurating the two-day International Seminar on Formalization and Social Security Coverage for Workers.
  • A sessions court in Kolkata’s Sealdah has sentenced prime accused Sanjoy Roy to life imprisonment in the RG Kar rape and murder case. Sessions Judge Anirban Das also held that the state government will have to pay the victim’s family compensation of 17 lakh rupees.
  • Uttarakhand cabinet gives nod to implementation of UCC in the state The Uttarakhand State Cabinet has given its nod to the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) manual, paving the way for its implementation in the state.
  • Government has said, 24 companies have been selected under the Production Linked Incentive, PLI Scheme for White Goods (Air Conditioners and LED Lights) with a committed investment of three thousand 516 crore rupees.

International Updates

  • The International Inter-University Jay Nepal Cup tournament that kicked off in the Kirtipur cricket ground of Kathmandu was inaugurated by the first president of Nepal, Dr Ram Baran Yadav. The Jay Cup is contested by eight Universities from India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
  • Seven illegal miners were killed and one seriously injured during a gun battle with troops in western Ghana. The military said the gun battle took place in Obuasi, a town in the western African country’s Ashanti Region, when about 60 illegal miners breached AngloGold Ashanti mine.
  • In Sri Lanka, rains have wreaked havoc in several provinces due to continued downpours. The Meteorology Department has forecast that rainy conditions will persist for the next 24 hours, affecting the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva, and Central provinces.
  • The United Arab Emirates has initiated the largest phase of Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, dispatching 20 trucks carrying over 200 tonnes of essential aid to Gaza. The operation, launched under the directives of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
  • India and Sri Lanka have finalised the price per unit for energy from the Sampur solar power plant to further strengthen energy cooperation between the two countries.

Sports Updates

  • In the Women’s Hockey India League (HIL), JSW Soorma Hockey Club won against Delhi SG Pipers by 5-1 at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Hockey Stadium in Ranchi. With this win, Soorma Hockey Club climbed to no 1 with 9 points among four teams playing in the league.
  • In the Australian Open Tennis tournament, World No. 1 Italian star Jannik Sinner advanced to the Quarterfinals of the Men’s Singles after defeating Danish player Holger Rune in a thrilling four-set encounter at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.
  • In the second edition of ICC Under 19 Women’s Cricket T20 World Cup, defending champions India began their title defence with a commanding 9-wicket win over the West Indies.
