National Updates

• The Cabinet has approved the development of Green Field Airport at Kota-Bundi in Rajasthan at an estimated cost of 1,507 crore rupees. The project includes construction of Terminal Building spanning an area of 20 thousand square meters capable of handling 1000 Peak Hour passengers.

• Parliament has passed the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025 with the Rajya Sabha approving it. The Lok Sabha has already passed the bill. The bill will further amend the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957.

• The Lok Sabha has passed the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025. Moving the Bill, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the Bill will further amend the Indian Institutes of Management Act, 2017.

• Over the past six months, the Election Commission has taken several initiatives which aims to streamline and improve the electoral process. In a statement, the poll body said that these initiatives span around engagement with all stakeholders, strengthening and cleanup of electoral systems.

• Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge today announced Former Supreme Court Judge B Sudershan Reddy as the candidate for the Vice-Presidential election from the INDIA bloc.

• कैबिनेट ने राजस्थान के कोटा-बुंडी में १,५०७ करोड़ रुपये की अनुमानित लागत से ग्रीन फील्ड हवाई अड्डे के विकास को मंजूरी दे दी है। इस परियोजना में २० हजार वर्ग मीटर के क्षेत्र में फैले टर्मिनल भवन का निर्माण शामिल है जो १००० पीक ऑवर यात्रियों को संभालने में सक्षम है।
• संसद ने खान एवं खनिज (विकास एवं विनियमन) संशोधन विधेयक, 2025 पारित कर दिया है तथा राज्यसभा ने इसे मंजूरी दे दी है। लोकसभा पहले ही विधेयक पारित कर चुकी है। यह विधेयक खान एवं खनिज (विकास एवं विनियमन) अधिनियम, १९५७ में और संशोधन करेगा।
• लोकसभा ने भारतीय प्रबंधन संस्थान (संशोधन) विधेयक, 2025 पारित कर दिया है। विधेयक पेश करते हुए केंद्रीय शिक्षा मंत्री धर्मेंद्र प्रधान ने कहा कि विधेयक भारतीय प्रबंधन संस्थान अधिनियम, २०१७ में और संशोधन करेगा।
• पिछले छह महीनों में, चुनाव आयोग ने कई पहल की हैं जिनका उद्देश्य चुनावी प्रक्रिया को सुव्यवस्थित और बेहतर बनाना है। एक बयान में मतदान निकाय ने कहा कि ये पहल सभी हितधारकों के साथ सहभागिता, चुनावी प्रणालियों को मजबूत बनाने और साफ-सफाई पर केंद्रित हैं।
• कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष मल्लिकार्जुन खड़गे ने आज सुप्रीम कोर्ट के पूर्व न्यायाधीश बी सुदर्शन रेड्डी को भारत ब्लॉक से उपराष्ट्रपति चुनाव के लिए उम्मीदवार घोषित किया।

International updates

• Sri Lanka has made progress in tackling food insecurity, with the rate falling from 24 percent to 16 percent, according to Philip Ward, the newly appointed representative and country director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).

• TikTok and the Nepal Tourism Board jointly announced a partnership on Tuesday to promote Nepal’s tourism sector through a creator-led campaign. The in-app experience is expected to help travellers discover the country’s must-see destinations and unexplored locations.

• Air Canada’s flight attendants’ union reached an agreement with the country’s largest carrier, ending the cabin crew strike. The strike that lasted nearly four days, led to mass cancellations during the busy summer season.

• S. President Donald Trump held a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Kremlin said that conversation, initiated by Trump, followed his recent talks with Zelensky and European leaders in Washington.

• The United Nations Security Council convened on Monday to discuss a French-drafted resolution proposing a one-year extension of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mandate, set to expire on August 31, 2025, with an ultimate goal of withdrawing the peacekeeping force.

• Russia has called on the UK authorities to refrain from actions that undermine Russia’s and the US’s efforts to settle the Ukrainian conflict.
