National Updates

• A 120-member parliamentary delegation from 40 Commonwealth countries arrived in Jaipur on a two-day visit. The delegates visited the iconic Amer Fort, where they were given a traditional Rajasthani welcome.

• The government has commenced the second range-wide estimation of riverine and estuarine dolphins in the country from Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh.. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change informed that the survey will be conducted in two phases under Project Dolphin.

• Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal discussed strengthening the India-Canada economic partnership with the Premier of British Columbia, Canada, David Eby. In a social media post, Mr Goyal said that the two sides discussed advancing trade and investment cooperation.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train between Howrah and Guwahati (Kamakhya) at Malda town railway station. Mr Modi also virtually flagged off the Guwahati-Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper.

• Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron comprising INS Tir, INS Shardul, INS Sujata, and Indian Coast Guard Ship Sarathi, arrived at Changi Naval Base, Singapore on the 15th of this month. The Ministry of Defence said that the squadron is on a training deployment to the South East Indian Ocean.

• Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi took a ride on the Delhi Metro. During the metro ride, he was accompanied by Japanese Ambassador to India Ono Keiichi. Senior officials of DMRC briefed the delegation about the Delhi Metro project at the Central Secretariat metro station.

• Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla inaugurated the Virtual Reality Theatre and Panel Exhibition titled from Earth to Orbit: Exploring space together in New Delhi.

• Indian Embassy in Tehran has pressed Iranian authorities to grant early consular access to 16 Indian crew-members on board on board the vessel MT Valiant Roar detained by Iranian authorities in December last year.

• US President Donald Trump has announced the members of a new Board of Peace to lead the second phase of his 20‑Point Peace Plan aimed at ending the Gaza conflict. The board aims to oversee efforts on governance, regional cooperation, reconstruction, investment, funding, and long-term stability.

• Bangladesh is witnessing a surge in violence against women, girls and religious minorities ahead of the February 12th general elections. Human Rights Watch group (HRW) in a report said it exposes serious failures by the interim government in protecting fundamental human rights.

• As part of the Operation Sagar Bandhu, the Indian Army Engineers have successfully constructed the third Bailey bridge, which measures 120 feet at 15 kilometres on the B-429 highway in Sri Lanka.

• 40 राष्ट्रमंडल देशों का 120 सदस्यीय संसदीय प्रतिनिधिमंडल दो दिवसीय यात्रा पर जयपुर पहुंचा। प्रतिनिधियों ने प्रतिष्ठित आमेर किले का दौरा किया, जहां उनका पारंपरिक राजस्थानी स्वागत किया गया।
• सरकार ने उत्तर प्रदेश के बिजनौर से देश में नदी और मुहाना डॉल्फ़िन का दूसरा रेंज-वाइड आकलन शुरू कर दिया है। पर्यावरण, वन एवं जलवायु परिवर्तन मंत्रालय ने बताया कि सर्वेक्षण प्रोजेक्ट डॉल्फिन के तहत दो चरणों में आयोजित किया जाएगा।
