- External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar met Norwegian Finance Minister and incoming chair of Munich Security Conference, Jens Stoltenberg in Munich. They had a useful exchange on the evolving global security architecture.
- The Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani will pay a State Visit to India on 17th and 18th of this month at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Ministers, senior officials and a business delegation.
- Lieutenant Commander Dilna K and Lieutenant Commander Rupa A of the Indian Navy have achieved a historic milestone by sailing INSV Tarini past Cape Horn, the southernmost tip of South America, during the third phase of the ‘Sagar Parikrama II’ expedition.

International Updates
- External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has criticized Western nations for treating democracy as a uniquely Western characteristic and accused them of supporting non-democratic forces in the Global South while upholding democratic values at home.
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for the creation of an armed forces of Europe, saying his country’s fight against Russia has laid the foundation for it.
- In Congo, residents in eastern Congo’s second-largest city, Bukavu remained indoors after a night of heavy gunfire as Rwanda-backed M23 rebels advanced in the city. The rebels, who seized Goma last month, claimed control of Kavumu airport near Bukavu yesterday.
- The U.S. Army has officially announced that it will no longer allow transgender individuals to enlist in the military and will cease providing gender transition procedures.
- In a unique display of Indo-Thai cultural richness, the Embassy of India in Bangkok organised a Khon dance and Sitar recital, celebrating the cultural ties of both nations. The event was a part of SAMVAD-IV, which is held in Thailand.

- In Hockey, India started its Women’s Pro League campaign with a 3-2 win over England at Kalinga Hockey Stadium, in Bhubaneshwar. Vaishnavi Phalke opened the scoring in the sixth minute while Deepika added another in the 25th minute.
- World Number one tennis player Jannik Sinner has accepted a three-month suspension after a settlement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) over two positive doping tests. Announcing this, WADA said now Sinner will serve the suspension from February 9 to May 4th.
- In squash, both the Indian girls’ and boys’ teams were eliminated from the Asian Junior Team Championship in Hong Kong . The Indian girls’ suffered a 1-2 defeat against home favourites Hong Kong in the semifinals.
- Ranchi will host the 4th South Asian Senior Athletics Championships at the Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium from May 3 to 5, 2025.
- India’s Gulveer Singh has etched his name in history by breaking a 17-year-old National Record in the indoor Men’s 3000 metres at the David Hemery Invitational meet in Boston. Clocking 7 minutes 38.26 seconds.
