National Updates
- Minister of State for Panchayati Raj, Professor S.P. Singh Baghel, launched a devolution index report titled ‘Status of Devolution to Panchayats in States – An Indicative Evidence-Based Ranking, 2024’ in New Delhi on Thursday.
- Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh chaired the 12th All India Pension Adalat in New Delhi on Thursday. During the event, the Minister interacted with pensioners from different states and provided on-the-spot redressal of their pension-related grievances.
- The Income-Tax Bill 2025 was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. The Bill aims at consolidating and amending the law relating to income tax. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the Bill in the lower house.
- The Joint Committee Report on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 was tabled in both Houses of Parliament amid opposition protests on Thursday. When the Lok Sabha resumed after adjournment at 2 PM, Chairman of the Joint Committee Jagdambika Pal tabled the report in the House.
- Both the Houses of the Parliament on Thursday went into recess till 10th of March as the first leg of the Budget Session of Parliament came to a close.
International Updates
- A recent report by Transparency International has labeled Pakistan as one of the most corrupt countries in the world, where the menace is prevalent across all sectors of government, judiciary, and society.
- Palestinian group Hamas announced that it will continue to implement the ceasefire deal, including a hostage-prisoner exchange within the agreed time frame. This announcement came after talks in Cairo, where mediators from Egypt and Qatar assured that they will work to remove obstacles hindering the cease fire.
- In Sri Lanka, a preliminary discussion on the final phase of drafting the Budget 2025, which is scheduled to be presented to Parliament on Monday, was held at the Presidential Secretariat.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Washington DC in the wee hours on a two-day visit to the United States of America. India’s Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra and other officials welcomed Prime Minister Modi at the airport.
