National Updates

• The Indian Government has extended financial assistance for another year to support the passenger India-Sri Lanka ferry service between Nagapattinam and Kankesanthurai. The move is in line with India’s continued commitment to strengthening regional connectivity and people-to-people ties with Sri Lanka.

• The National Cadet Corps Mount Everest Expedition Team, who recently conducted a successful summit to Mount Everest, has achieved a 100 percent summit success rate despite harsh weather and difficult terrain.

• The Centre has approved the procurement of a total quantity of 54 thousand and 166 metric tonnes of Moong under the Price Support Scheme in the States of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat for the summer crop season 2025-26.

• A London-bound Air India passenger plane carrying 242 people, including 2 pilots and 10 cabin crew members, crashed in the Meghani Nagar area near Ahmedabad airport in Gujarat. Of the passengers, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, one Canadian, and 7 Portuguese nationals were onboard.

• Indian Coast Guard has chaired the 137th meeting of the Offshore Security Coordination Committee in New Delhi. The meeting aimed to review the preparedness and effectiveness of the security of India’s offshore installations and enhance joint response mechanisms.

• The Indian Army has deployed teams comprising approximately 130 personnel to assist civil administration in the ongoing Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) efforts following the Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad.

• भारत सरकार ने नागपट्टिनम और कांकेसंथुराई के बीच यात्री भारत-श्रीलंका नौका सेवा का समर्थन करने के लिए एक और वर्ष के लिए वित्तीय सहायता बढ़ा दी है। यह कदम श्रीलंका के साथ क्षेत्रीय संपर्क और लोगों के बीच संबंधों को मजबूत करने की भारत की निरंतर प्रतिबद्धता के अनुरूप है।
• राष्ट्रीय कैडेट कोर माउंट एवरेस्ट अभियान दल, जिसने हाल ही में माउंट एवरेस्ट पर सफल शिखर सम्मेलन आयोजित किया था, ने खराब मौसम और कठिन भूभाग के बावजूद 100 प्रतिशत शिखर सफलता दर हासिल की है।
• केंद्र ने ग्रीष्मकालीन फसल सीजन २०२५-२६ के लिए हरियाणा, उत्तर प्रदेश और गुजरात राज्यों में मूल्य समर्थन योजना के तहत कुल ५४ हजार १६६ मीट्रिक टन मूंग की खरीद को मंजूरी दी है।
• लंदन जा रहा एयर इंडिया का एक यात्री विमान, जिसमें २ पायलट और १० केबिन क्रू सदस्यों सहित २४२ लोग सवार थे, गुजरात में अहमदाबाद हवाई अड्डे के पास मेघानी नगर इलाके में दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गया। यात्रियों में से 169 भारतीय नागरिक, 53 ब्रिटिश नागरिक, एक कनाडाई और 7 पुर्तगाली नागरिक सवार थे।
• भारतीय तटरक्षक बल ने नई दिल्ली में अपतटीय सुरक्षा समन्वय समिति की 137वीं बैठक की अध्यक्षता की। बैठक का उद्देश्य भारत के अपतटीय प्रतिष्ठानों की सुरक्षा की तैयारी और प्रभावशीलता की समीक्षा करना तथा संयुक्त प्रतिक्रिया तंत्र को बढ़ाना था।
• भारतीय सेना ने अहमदाबाद में एयर इंडिया विमान दुर्घटना के बाद चल रहे मानवीय सहायता और आपदा राहत (एचएडीआर) प्रयासों में नागरिक प्रशासन की सहायता के लिए लगभग 130 कर्मियों वाली टीमों को तैनात किया है।

• I​srael is fully prepared to launch an operation against Iran in case of any attack on its soil, and ​it has already briefed US officials about its policy. ​Iran has also said that it will launch missiles at Israel ​if there ​i​s any provocation.

• The British High Commission in India has issued a helpline number – Plus (+) 44 20 7008 5000 in view of the Ahmedabad plane crash. It has been issued to provide support to British nationals who require consular assistance.

• The World Bank has projected a slowing of Sri Lanka’s economic recovery in 2025, with growth projected to ease to 3.5%. According to the World Bank’s latest Global Economic Prospects report, the deceleration follows a modest rebound in 2024, driven by gains in industrial output and construction.

• UK PM Keir Starmer Expresses Grief Over Air India Crash in Ahmedabad

• External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar called on French President Emmanuel Macron. Dr Jaishankar thanked him for France’s strong message of support in the fight against terrorism.

• The United States has begun evacuating non-essential personnel from its diplomatic missions and military bases in West Asia amid rising tensions with Iran and stalled nuclear negotiations.
