National Updates

  • The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has amended the Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations 2018 to further strengthen consumer protection against Unsolicited Commercial Communication.
  • The government has approved the implementation of the transportation component of the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) in view of the falling prices of tomatoes in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and other major producing states.
  • Around 2 crore devotees have taken a holy dip in the Sangam till 6 pm last evening on the occasion of Magh Purnima in Mahakumbh at Prayagraj. It holds great relevance as it is considered auspicious to bathe in the Sangam of Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati during Magh Purnima.
  • The Income-Tax Bill, 2025, is scheduled to be introduced in the Lok Sabha today. The bill, which is aimed at consolidating and amending the law relating to income tax, has been listed in the business of the House.
  • The 12th All India Pension Adalat will be held in New Delhi today. Minister of State for the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions, Dr Jitendra Singh, will preside over the event. The 12th Pension Adalat will focus on the resolution of long-outstanding pension cases.
  • The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has called for collective efforts from the government, industry, and disaster agencies to build a disaster-resilient telecom ecosystem.
  • On the eve of World Radio Day today, Akashvani organised the Rag Radio Rang Radio programme at Pandit Ravi Shankar Studio in New Delhi.

 

International Updates

  • The much-anticipated Gangaramaya Temple’s annual Navam Perahera is being held in Colombo. The vibrant cultural procession attracts thousands of tourists and Sri Lankans.
  • Angola has recorded 3,402 cholera cases and 114 deaths since the outbreak began in early January this year. According to the Health Ministry, since February 1, Angola has been reporting more than 100 new cholera cases daily, peaking at 295 on February 8.
  • One person was killed and four people were injured in a Russian missile attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, overnight. Officials said a nine-year-old girl was among the injured in the strikes. The strikes caused damage in Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi, Podilskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, and Obolonskyi districts.
  • The UN Human Rights Office has found the former government of Bangladesh and security and intelligence services, alongside violent elements associated with the Awami League party, were systematically engaged in a range of serious human rights violations during last year’s student-led protests.
  • In South Korea, a Conference on electric energy ‘Elecs Korea 2025’ kicked off in Seoul to showcase cutting-edge electric power technologies of local and foreign companies.
  • In Singapore, over 16,000 devotees fulfilled their vows to Lord Murugan during a Thaipusam festival celebration. Most of the participating devotees undertook to carry the ‘paalkudam’, or milk pot, while around 300 carried spike ‘kavadis’, also known as alagu kavadis.
  • In Sri Lanka, the High Commission of India and Kelaniya Maha Viharaya launched 5 Sinhala translated books on Jataka Tales.

Sports Update

  • In Men’s Cricket, India beat England by 142 runs in the third of the three-match ODI series to clean-sweep the hosts 3-0. Earlier, put into bat, Men in Blue made 356 runs in the stipulated 50 overs.
  • Muskan Rana of Jammu and Kashmir has secured a gold medal in rhythmic gymnastics at the ongoing 38th National Games in Uttarakhand. Muskan Rana is a 15-year-old trainee of the Gymnastic Academy of J&K Sports Council.
  • In the Asia Mixed Team Badminton Championships 2025, India began their campaign with a commanding 5-0 win over Macau in Qingdao, China.
  • The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has announced that Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, in Shillong, Meghalaya, will host two matches of Indian senior men’s team during the March FIFA International Window.
