- Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat inaugurated Kalagram at Mahakumbh Nagar in Prayagraj. Ministry of Culture has created Kalagram which will showcase the rich and vibrant culture of the country.
- President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar have extended their greetings on the eve of Lohri. They also extended their greeted for the upcoming Makar Sankranti, Pongal, and Magh Bihu festivals, which will be celebrated on the 14th of this month.
- In Chhattisgarh, five Maoists, including two female rebels, were killed in an encounter with security forces. A joint team of security forces was on a search operation in the National Park area of Bijapur district after receiving intelligence inputs about the presence of Maoists in the area.
- The Indian Space Research Organisation has made significant progress in stabilising its two satellites under the SpaDex programme before docking. It succeeded in bringing Chaser and Target satellites at 3 3-meter distances before moving them back to a safer distance.
- External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar will represent the Government of India at the Swearing-In Ceremony of President-Elect Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States of America. Mr Trump will be sworn in as president of the United States on the 20th of this month.
- Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh will inaugurate the Mega Entrepreneurship Development Conclave in Pune today. During the event, Mr Singh will inaugurate 40 livestock projects worth more than 545 crore rupees.
- The biggest confluence of Faith and Humanity Mahakumbh will begin today at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. All arrangements are in place for pilgrims who will attend the grand event. People have started arriving in the city in large numbers to attend the Mahakumbh.

- In Bangladesh, the interim government led by Prof. Mohammad Yunus has again extended the magistracy power given to commissioned officers of the armed forces by 60 days. The new extension will come into effect from January 14 aiming to maintain law and order across Bangladesh.
