National Updates

• Nearly 302 million people were lifted out of poverty when assuming equal sharing of resources within households between 2011-12 and 2022-23. This was found in a research titled the Intra-Household Allocation of Resources and Changes in Poverty Rates of Female, Male and Children in India from 2011-12.

• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha and Uttarakhand today.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Mr Modi heard Mr Zelenskyy’s perspectives on recent developments.

• An amount of 3,900 crore rupees was transferred through DBT to more than 35 lakh farmers of the country as claim payment under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. In this, an amount of 1,400 crore rupees was transferred to 9 lakh 70 thousand farmers of Rajasthan.

• The Lok Sabha has passed the Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the Income-Tax (No.2) Bill, 2025 with voice vote.

• 2011-12 और 2022-23 के बीच घरों के भीतर संसाधनों के समान बंटवारे को मानते हुए लगभग 302 मिलियन लोगों को गरीबी से बाहर निकाला गया। यह बात 2011-12 के दौरान भारत में महिला, पुरुष और बच्चों के संसाधनों के अंतर-घरेलू आवंटन और गरीबी दर में परिवर्तन नामक शोध में पाई गई।
• भारतीय मौसम विभाग (आईएमडी) ने आज अरुणाचल प्रदेश, असम, मेघालय, उप हिमालयी पश्चिम बंगाल, सिक्किम, बिहार, हिमाचल प्रदेश, ओडिशा और उत्तराखंड के अलग-अलग स्थानों पर भारी से बहुत भारी वर्षा का अनुमान लगाया है।
• प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने यूक्रेन के राष्ट्रपति वोलोडिमिर ज़ेलेंस्की के साथ टेलीफोन पर बातचीत की। श्री मोदी ने हाल के घटनाक्रमों पर श्री ज़ेलेंस्की के दृष्टिकोण सुने।
• प्रधानमंत्री फसल बीमा योजना के तहत दावा भुगतान के रूप में डीबीटी के माध्यम से देश के ३५ लाख से अधिक किसानों को ३,९०० करोड़ रुपये की राशि हस्तांतरित की गई। इसमें राजस्थान के ९ लाख ७० हजार किसानों को १,४०० करोड़ रुपये की राशि हस्तांतरित की गई।
• लोकसभा ने कराधान कानून (संशोधन) विधेयक, 2025 और आयकर (सं.2) विधेयक, 2025 को ध्वनि मत से पारित कर दिया है।

International updates

• The Department of Sanskrit and Eastern Studies at the University of Kelaniya has, for the first time, inaugurated a special exhibition dedicated to Vāstuśāstra, the ancient Indian science of architecture.

• Major Asian markets settled mixed. China’s Shanghai Composite Index added over 0.3 per cent, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rose almost 0.2 per cent. On the other side, Singapore’s Straits Times dipped 0.17 per cent while South Korea’s Kospi ended marginally down by 0.1 per cent.

• Crude oil prices rose over half per cent, after falling more than four per cent last week, as investors looked ahead to talks between the US and Russia later this week on the war in Ukraine. Brent Crude was trading over 0.6 per cent up at 67 dollars per barrel.

• In a significant step towards solidarity with its Indo-Pacific partners, the Indian mission handed over five metric tonnes of cowpea seeds as humanitarian assistance to the Fijian government.

• Balochistan observed its 78th Independence Day, continuing an annual tradition that defies what Baloch human rights groups call Pakistan’s illegal occupation of the region. The Baloch struggle for independence has significant historical origins, starting in 1947.

• More than 15,000 residents in southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality have been evacuated following Torrential rains. According to the municipal meteorological department, heavy downpours hit 16 districts and counties in Chongqing.

• India has strongly condemned the remarks of Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir on potential Nuclear threat. In a statement, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal has said that India has already made it clear that it will not give in to any nuclear blackmail.

• Sri Lanka is in negotiations to restructure a series of 2022 bonds that remained outside the country’s sweeping December 2024 debt overhaul.

• कच्चे तेल की कीमतों में पिछले सप्ताह चार प्रतिशत से अधिक की गिरावट के बाद आधे प्रतिशत से अधिक की वृद्धि हुई, क्योंकि निवेशक इस सप्ताह के अंत में यूक्रेन में युद्ध पर अमेरिका और रूस के बीच होने वाली वार्ता की प्रतीक्षा कर रहे थे। ब्रेंट क्रूड 0.6 प्रतिशत से अधिक बढ़कर 67 डॉलर प्रति बैरल पर कारोबार कर रहा था।

• India’s Namrata Batra created history by reaching the women’s 52 kg final at the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China. Namrata beat Philippines’ Krizan Faith Collado 2-0 to assure India of its first-ever World Games medal in the sport of Wushu.

• Indian Golf Union has sent a four-member team to Indonesia to compete in the first-ever Mid-Amateur Championship organised by the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation in association with the Indonesia Golf Association.

• In Athletics, Olympian Annu Rani won the women’s javelin throw title at the Indian Open 2025 World Athletics Bronze Level Continental Tour at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

• भारत की नम्रता बत्रा ने चीन के चेंग्दू में २०२५ विश्व खेलों में महिलाओं के ५२ किलोग्राम फाइनल में पहुंचकर इतिहास रच दिया। नम्रता ने फिलीपींस’ क्रिज़न फेथ कोलाडो को 2-0 से हराकर भारत को वुशु खेल में विश्व खेलों में अपना पहला पदक सुनिश्चित किया।
• भारतीय गोल्फ संघ ने इंडोनेशिया गोल्फ एसोसिएशन के सहयोग से एशिया-प्रशांत गोल्फ परिसंघ द्वारा आयोजित पहली मिड-एमेच्योर चैम्पियनशिप में प्रतिस्पर्धा करने के लिए चार सदस्यीय टीम इंडोनेशिया भेजी है।
• एथलेटिक्स में ओलंपियन अन्नू रानी ने ओडिशा के भुवनेश्वर के कलिंग स्टेडियम में इंडियन ओपन 2025 विश्व एथलेटिक्स कांस्य स्तरीय कॉन्टिनेंटल टूर में महिला भाला फेंक का खिताब जीता।
