National Updates

• The 13th BRICS Urbanisation Forum began in New Delhi today. The two day forum, under India’s Chairship, brings together Ministers, senior government officials and urban practitioners from Brazil, Russia, Indonesia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates.

• A tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Centre and the Governments of Assam and Nagaland for the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas along the Assam-Nagaland border. The MoU was signed in New Delhi in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

• The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully secured the extradition of wanted fugitive Vainket Garg from Georgia to India. This was done in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Haryana Police.

• Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Prahlad Joshi said that India has achieved a record food grain production in the 2025-26 crop year, with rice and wheat output reaching historic highs.

• The Supreme Court underscored the need for strict enforcement of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, voicing concern over the persistent societal preference for male children and the continued practice of sex-selective measures.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a visit to France and Slovakia from 14th to 18th of this month to participate in the upcoming G7 Summit.

• Sri Lanka has climbed 14 places to rank 67th in the 2026 Global Peace Index (GPI), securing the second position in South Asia and marking one of the most significant improvements in the region. The ranking reflects the country’s continued recovery after nearly three decades of civil conflict

• The Indian Navy has successfully completed a complex high-risk operation to recover an unexploded missile warhead from a commercial oil tanker that had departed from Fujairah in the UAE, highlighting its maritime emergency response capabilities in the Indian Ocean region.

• US President Donald Trump has threatened to launch major strikes against Iran and take control of key parts of the country’s oil and gas industry, as escalating hostilities between the two nations raise fears of a wider conflict in West Asia.

• In Badminton, PV Sindhu and Tanvi Sharma advanced to the Women’s Singles quarterfinals of the Australian Open in Sydney. Two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu defeated compatriot Isharani Baruah, 22-20, 21-12 in the Round of 16.

13वां ब्रिक्स शहरीकरण मंच आज नई दिल्ली में शुरू हुआ। भारत की अध्यक्षता में दो दिवसीय मंच, ब्राजील, रूस, इंडोनेशिया, भारत, चीन, दक्षिण अफ्रीका, मिस्र, इथियोपिया, ईरान और संयुक्त अरब अमीरात के मंत्रियों, वरिष्ठ सरकारी अधिकारियों और शहरी व्यवसायियों को एक साथ लाता है।
असम-नागालैंड सीमा पर कच्चे तेल और प्राकृतिक गैस की खोज और उत्पादन के लिए केंद्र और असम और नागालैंड की सरकारों के बीच एक त्रिपक्षीय समझौता ज्ञापन (एमओयू) पर हस्ताक्षर किए गए। केंद्रीय गृह मंत्री अमित शाह की उपस्थिति में नई दिल्ली में समझौता ज्ञापन पर हस्ताक्षर किए गए।
