National Updates

• Parliament has passed the Railways (Amendment) Bill 2024 with the Rajya Sabha approving it. The bill seeks to amend the Railways Act 1989 and is intended to enhance the power of the Railways Board and enhance the functioning and independence of the body.
• The Lok Sabha passed the Bills of Lading Bill, 2024. It will replace the Indian Bills of Lading Act, 1856 which provides a legal framework for issuance of bills of lading. A bill of lading refers to a document issued by a freight carrier to a shipper.
• In Madhya Pradesh, Madhav National Park located in Shivpuri district has been declared as the new tiger reserve of the state. Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav and Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia released a tigress and announced it as a tiger reserve.
• The government sought Parliament’s nod to spend a net additional 51 thousand 462 crore rupees in the current financial year. The second batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants was tabled by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Lok Sabha yesterday.
• The 3rd India-Cambodia Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) were held in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The consultations were held in a warm and friendly atmosphere and provided an opportunity to review the entire gamut of bilateral relations including political cooperation, trade and investment, defence.
• The 54th National Safety Week is being observed across the country. The week is celebrated between the 4th to 10th of March annually in the country, to raise awareness about safety precautions.

• संसद ने रेलवे (संशोधन) विधेयक २०२४ को राज्यसभा की मंजूरी के साथ पारित कर दिया है। विधेयक में रेलवे अधिनियम १९८९ में संशोधन करने का प्रयास किया गया है और इसका उद्देश्य रेलवे बोर्ड की शक्ति को बढ़ाना और निकाय के कामकाज और स्वतंत्रता को बढ़ाना है।
• लोकसभा ने बिल ऑफ लैडिंग बिल, २०२४ पारित किया। यह भारतीय लदान विधेयक अधिनियम, १८५६ का स्थान लेगा जो लदान बिल जारी करने के लिए एक कानूनी ढांचा प्रदान करता है। लदान का बिल एक माल वाहक द्वारा एक शिपर को जारी किए गए दस्तावेज़ को संदर्भित करता है।
• मध्य प्रदेश में शिवपुरी जिले में स्थित माधव राष्ट्रीय उद्यान को राज्य का नया टाइगर रिजर्व घोषित किया गया है। मुख्यमंत्री डॉ मोहन यादव और केंद्रीय संचार मंत्री ज्योतिरादित्य सिंधिया ने एक बाघिन को रिहा कर दिया और इसे टाइगर रिजर्व के रूप में घोषित किया।
• सरकार ने चालू वित्त वर्ष में शुद्ध रूप से अतिरिक्त ५१ हजार ४६२ करोड़ रुपये खर्च करने के लिए संसद की मंजूरी मांगी। वित्त मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण द्वारा कल लोकसभा में अनुपूरक अनुदान मांगों का दूसरा बैच रखा गया।
• तीसरा भारत-कंबोडिया विदेश कार्यालय परामर्श (एफओसी) सिएम रीप, कंबोडिया में आयोजित किया गया था। परामर्श गर्मजोशी भरे और मैत्रीपूर्ण माहौल में आयोजित किए गए और राजनीतिक सहयोग, व्यापार और निवेश, रक्षा सहित द्विपक्षीय संबंधों के संपूर्ण दायरे की समीक्षा करने का अवसर प्रदान किया गया।
• देश भर में ५४ वां राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा सप्ताह मनाया जा रहा है। सुरक्षा सावधानियों के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाने के लिए, यह सप्ताह देश में प्रतिवर्ष 4 से 10 मार्च के बीच मनाया जाता है।

International Updates

• An oil tanker and a cargo ship collided off the coast of eastern England, setting both vessels on fire. At least 32 casualties were brought ashore, but their condition was not immediately clear.
• Syria’s interim government announced the end of a military operation against insurgents loyal to ousted president Bashar al-Assad after days of intense fighting.
• Russia ordered two British diplomats to leave within two weeks, accusing them of espionage. Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) accused the diplomats of providing false personal data and engaging in activities that threatened national security but offered no evidence.
• The Bangladesh Army has said that it did not have any direct communication or request from the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights regarding the comments made by UN High Commissioner Volker Turk in an interview.
• South Korea and the United States began their annual joint military exercises, but they paused live-fire training. Seoul is investigating how two of its fighter jets mistakenly bombed a civilian area during a warm-up drill last week.
• Israel cut off the electricity supply to Gaza, affecting a desalination plant producing drinking water for part of the arid territory. Israel last week suspended supplies of goods to the territory of more than two million Palestinians.
• Sri Lanka’s Central Bank has reported an increase in Workers’ remittances inflow during the first two months of 2025. The regulator said that the inflows grew by 16.3 per cent year-on-year to 1.12 billion US dollars.
