National Updates

  • The fourth India-UK Energy Dialogue, co-chaired by Power Minister Manohar Lal and the UK’s Secretary for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, was held in New Delhi. The dialogue focused on reviewing the progress made in the energy sectors of both nations, including power and renewable energy.
  • The Rajya Sabha today took up the discussion on the General Budget 2025-26. Initiating the discussion, P. Chidambaram of Congress said the share of the country’s manufacturing in the GDP has fallen under the current regime.
  • The Lok Sabha today resumed discussion on the Union Budget 2025-26. Dayanidhi Maran of DMK alleged that the NDA budget fully favours the corporates and has failed to address the real problems faced by the people, including unemployment and inflation.
  • The government said that over 10 crore LPG connections have been released among the beneficiaries since the launch of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in 2016.
  • President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate the two-day International Conference on Unani Day today in New Delhi. Minister of Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh will also be present on the occasion.
  • Govt Approves 85 New Kendriya Vidyalayas, 28 Navodaya Vidyalayas Nationwide
  • The government said the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS) has not been extended to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME).

 

International Updates

  • Three more earthquakes have occurred near the Greek island of Santorini, causing continuing concern in the tourist hotspot. Residents of neighbouring Amorgos remain on high alert after tremors, which followed a moderate 5.0 magnitude earthquake between the islands.
  • Romanian President Klaus Iohannis announced his resignation following mounting pressure from populist opposition groups. The announcement came two months after a top court annulled a presidential election in the European Union country. He will leave office on February 12.
  • In Pakistan, chaos engulfed the capital, Islamabad, once again as lawyers took to the streets t, protesting a meeting at the Supreme Court aimed at finalising the names of eight Supreme Court judges.
  • At least 30 people have died and many others have been injured when a bus plunged down a ravine outside Guatemala City. The bus was travelling on a busy route when it plunged approximately 20 meters from Puente Belice, a highway bridge that crosses over a road and creek.
  • In China, marriages plummeted by a fifth last year, the biggest drop on record. This occurred despite manifold efforts by authorities to encourage young couples to wed.
  • Ecuador’s presidential election will go to a second round after a closely contested first-round result failed to produce an outright winner.
  • South Korea’s industry ministry held an emergency meeting to assess the possible impact on local businesses from the United States plan to impose a 25 percent tariff on all steel and aluminium imports.
  • At World of Coffee Dubai 2025, held from February 10 to 12, India’s coffee industry has mounted its most ambitious international presentation.

 

Sports Updates

  • In Para-Archery, India’s Sarita has clinched the gold medal in the Women’s Compound Open category at the Para-Archery Asia Cup in Bangkok, Thailand. She triumphed over Nur Syahidah Alim of Singapore, winning 143-142 in a closely contested match.
