National Updates

  • India has extended humanitarian assistance to the people of Cuba in the aftermath of Hurricane Rafael. In a social media post, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal said that the consignment in the form of Essential Medicines comprising Antibiotics, Anti-pyretics, Pain Killers, etc was sent.
  • Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has said that the Government in collaboration with private players will manufacture wheels for the trains under the Make In India scheme from 2026.
  • Director General of National Cadet Corps-NCC Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh inaugurated the Idea and Innovation competition in New Delhi.

International Updates

  • An event marking Vishwa Hindi Diwas was organised at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu.
  • In a historic step towards promoting Hindi education in Sri Lanka, the country’s first certificate course in Hindi through open and distance learning was launched at the first-ever Bharat Sri Lankan Hindi Sammelan held in Colombo.
  • Syed Anwar Khursheed, a distinguished Indian physician based in Saudi Arabia, was awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award 2025, the highest recognition for overseas Indians by the Government of India.
  • In Bangladesh, the declaration of the July Revolution may not be made on January 15 as was planned since additional time is needed to reach a broader consensus, said Mahfuj Alam, adviser of the interim government at a media briefing.
  • In Canada, Indian-origin Member of Parliament Chandra Arya has announced his candidacy for Prime Minister following the resignation of Justin Trudeau.

  • In Badminton, India’s pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty reached the semifinals of men’s doubles of the Malaysia Super 1000 badminton tournament, with a straight-game victory over Malaysia’s Yew Sin Ong and Ee Yi Teo.
  • India cruised to a six-wicket victory over Ireland in the opening match of the three-match Women’s One-Day International series at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot.
  • In Tennis, India’s Yuki Bhambri and his companion Albano Olivetti of France lost to the top-seeded pair of Nikola Mektić of Croatia and Michael Venus of New Zealand.
  • In Indian Super League Football, visitors Odisha FC played out a 2-2 draw with hosts Chennaiyin FC in Chennai.
  • In Men’s Hockey India League, Vedanta Kalinga Lancers defeated Team Gonasika 2-1, at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela Odisha.
  • In Boxing, Shiva Thapa, reigning Welterweight champion, began his title defence with a dominant victory at the 8th Elite Men’s National Boxing Championship in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.
