National Updates

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with students nationwide in the eighth edition of his Pariksha Pe Charcha programme at 11 AM today on multiple platforms, including DD. The prime minister will interact with students, parents, and teachers to offer insights on exam preparation, stress management, etc.
  • Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnav today said 95,000 new vacancies will be completed soon in railways. Talking to media persons at Bettiah Junction in Bihar, Mr. Vaishnav said these new jobs will be additional to the recently held 1.5 lakh railway recruitments in the country.
  • President Droupadi Murmu will visit Mahakumbh, Prayagraj today. She will take a holy dip in Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. The President will also visit Akshayvat and Bade Hanuman Temple in Prayagraj.
  • Information & Broadcasting and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inspected Gorakhpur railway station and reviewed the proposed model of Gorakhpur Junction. Railway officials briefed the minister about the details of the model station.
  • The third edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam is to be held from the 15th of February. This year’s theme will be ‘Sage Agasthiyar’. The participants will also be experiencing Mahakumbh and a visit to the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya

International Updates

  • In Sri Lanka, a sudden islandwide power outage was reported, affecting multiple regions across the country. The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has said that supply has been restored to most parts of the island.
  • Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has urged an emergency meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to address the Gaza crisis. Araghchi discussed the matter with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty over a phone call.
  • The Israeli military has pulled out of the Netzarim corridor in central Gaza, a move confirmed by Hamas. This withdrawal is part of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. The Palestinian police force took charge of the area to manage the flow of Palestinians moving through it.  
  • The United States will be participating in the Aero India expo this year for the 15th time. The show is scheduled to begin from today to 1the 4th of this month at Yelahanka in Bengaluru.
  • US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has asked Hamas to release all the Israeli hostages taken by them immediately. This call came after the return of three captives who had been held by Hamas for 490 days.
  • US federal judge blocks Elon Musk’s initiative DOGE from accessing personal financial records of Americans

Sports Updates

  • In cricket, India defeated England by 4 wickets in the second One Day International match at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack t to seal the series 2-0 with one match left. This is India’s seventh successive bilateral ODI series win at home against England.
  • Former Sri Lankan captain and opener Dimuth Karunaratne bid farewell to international cricket after playing his 100th Test against Australia in Galle. The 36-year-old scored 36 and 14 in his final match, which Australia won by nine wickets.
