National Updates

  • Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today stated that the first World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit, WAVES 2025 is levelling up to make India the global content hub.
  • The 2nd India-Nepal Startup Connect was organised in Kathmandu Valley, aiming to provide a crucible for entrepreneurs and visionaries to collaborate across borders. During the India-Nepal Startup Connect, participants were called for greater collaboration between India and Nepal in the startup sector.
  • The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has registered a decisive victory in the Delhi Assembly Election, returning to power after 27 years by defeating the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The BJP won 48 seats in the 70-member legislative assembly, while the AAP bagged 22 seats.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a crucial visit to France and the United States from Monday. In Paris, Mr. Modi will co-chair the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Summit with French President Emmanuel Macron.
  • The Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited for the procurement of 28 EON-51 systems for 11 New Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels and three Cadet Training Ships for the Indian Navy.

 

International Updates

  • Israel has released 183 Palestinian prisoners as part of a broader exchange for Israeli hostages held in Gaza. Israel has begun releasing Palestinian prisoners after Hamas freed three Israeli hostages.
  • The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the Embassy of France in Nepal, and Blue Water Intelligence signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to launch the HydroNepal Project. NEA Managing Director Kul Man Ghising and CEO of BWI Jeremy Fain signed the MoU in the presence of French Ambassador.
  • In Congo, escalating fight between M23 rebels and Congolese troops has caused thousands of people to flee, with many heading towards the provincial capital, Bukavu.
  • The United States Bureau of Labour Statistics (BLS) under Department of Labour reported that the unemployment rate edged down to 4 percent in January, lowest since May 2024. Major unemployment decline was observed in the mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction industries.
  • A two-day long BIMSTEC digital conclave has kicked off in Colombo with the theme of building digital public infrastructure for shared prosperity.

 

Sports Updates

  • In cricket, India will take on England in the second ODI of their three-match series at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack today. The match will start at 1:30 PM IST.
  • In the Indian Super League (ISL) football, Hyderabad FC defeated Mohammedan SC by three goals to one at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium in Hyderabad. The Hyderabad strikers showcased a dominant performance, finding the target in the 24th, 45th, and 90th minutes of the match.
  • The 2025 Freestyle Chess Grand Slam kicked off at Weissenhaus in Baltic Coast, Germany. After Round 5, Fabiano Caruana is leading the points table with 4.5 points, followed by Javokhir Sindarov.
