• The Unique Identification Authority of India, UIDAI, today launched the Aadhaar mascot, Udai. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said the mascot will be helpful in making Aadhaar-related information more relatable and people-friendly.

• Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari chaired the annual meeting of Transport Ministers from all States and Union Territories in New Delhi.

• The depression over the Bay of Bengal is expected to cross Sri Lanka’s coast on Friday between 5:30 PM and 11:30 PM, the Sri Lankan Department of Meteorology said.

• In Iran, two police officers were killed and 30 others injured during clashes in the southwestern part of the country, as nationwide protests over economic grievances entered their 12th day.

• German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has strongly criticised the US foreign policy under President Donald Trump. Mr. Steinmeier said that global democracy was being attacked as never before. According to the experts, these remarks apparently refer to recent actions such as the ousting of Venezuela.

• Indian Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, has expressed gratitude to the 56th Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson for his solidarity with India’s counter-terrorism efforts following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir in April 2025.

• The Election Commission of Nepal has published a list of candidates who have filed their candidacies for the National Assembly election scheduled for January 25. As per the list, 44 candidates of different parties filed their candidacies for the election going to be held for 19 posts.

• A leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) affiliated organisation was shot dead, while another man was injured in a shooting incident in Dhaka’s Tejgaon area last night, triggering protests and a heavy law-enforcement presence in the area.
