National Updates

• The National Human Rights Commission organised a meeting of its Core Group on Right to Food and Nutrition in New Delhi. The meeting focused on the theme Tackling Food Adulteration in India: Understanding the Scale, Challenges and Reforms.

• In view of the rapidly evolving situation in Iran, the Ministry of External Affairs has advised Indian nationals who are currently in Iran to stay put where they are, shelter in place and avoid further movements.

• The campaigning for Assembly elections in Assam, Keralam and Puducherry has ended this evening after days of hectic political activity. Polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies of Assam, 140 in Keralam and 30 seats in Puducherry will be held in a single phase on the 9th of April.

• The Election Commission of India (ECI) commenced the International Election Visitors’ Programme (IEVP), 2026 for the upcoming legislative assembly elections of Assam, Kerala and Puducherry in New Delhi.

• Government issues order to double sales of 5 kg LPG cylinders; Assures supply of oil and gas

• External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar and his counterpart of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Dr Denzil L. Douglas inaugurated the high commission of Saint Kitts and Nevis in New Delhi.

• India has dispatched a consignment of 250 Metric Tonnes of foodgrains to Seychelles. In a social media post, the External Affairs Ministry said that more consignments are to follow under the 175 million dollars Special Economic Package committed to Seychelles.

• Thirty Indian fishermen who were released from Sri Lankan prisons reached Chennai by flight. The fishermen from Rameswaram and Karaikal had gone fishing and were fishing near Pamban. The Sri Lankan Navy arrested them for trespassing into international waters.

• The Production Linked Incentive Scheme for the Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI) has shown encouraging results, with cumulative investment exceeding nine thousand crore rupees against a committed investment of around seven thousand crore rupees.

International Updates

• Tensions across West Asia are intensifying, with Israeli forces saying they have completed a large-scale wave of strikes targeting dozens of Iranian regime sites, including a key railway bridge in Kashan.

• Vietnam’s Communist Party’s Secretary General To Lam, was unanimously elected by parliament as the country’s president for a five-year term. The parliament said that all 495 deputies present National Assembly session endorsed the Communist Party’s nomination, while five lawmakers were absent.

• External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar chaired a Consultative Committee meeting on India and Africa ties in New Delhi. The discussions covered the country’s outreach to African countries, including trade and investment, Lines of Credit and grants, capacity building, especially in education.

• India continued their impressive campaign at the Asian Boxing Championships 2026, with a total of eight boxers, six women and two men, storming into the finals in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

• राष्ट्रीय मानवाधिकार आयोग ने नई दिल्ली में भोजन और पोषण के अधिकार पर अपने कोर ग्रुप की बैठक आयोजित की। बैठक का विषय था भारत में खाद्य मिलावट से निपटना: पैमाने, चुनौतियों और सुधारों को समझना।
• ईरान में तेजी से विकसित हो रही स्थिति को देखते हुए, विदेश मंत्रालय ने वर्तमान में ईरान में मौजूद भारतीय नागरिकों को सलाह दी है कि वे जहां हैं वहीं रहें, आश्रय लें और आगे की गतिविधियों से बचें।
• असम, केरलम और पुडुचेरी में विधानसभा चुनावों के लिए प्रचार कई दिनों की व्यस्त राजनीतिक गतिविधि के बाद आज शाम समाप्त हो गया। असम के सभी १२६ विधानसभा निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों, केरलम में १४० और पुडुचेरी में ३० सीटों के लिए मतदान ९ अप्रैल को एक ही चरण में होगा।

• श्रीलंकाई जेलों से रिहा हुए तीस भारतीय मछुआरे उड़ान से चेन्नई पहुंचे। रामेश्वरम और कराईकल के मछुआरे मछली पकड़ने गए थे और पंबन के पास मछली पकड़ रहे थे। श्रीलंकाई नौसेना ने उन्हें अंतर्राष्ट्रीय जलक्षेत्र में अतिक्रमण करने के आरोप में गिरफ्तार किया।
• खाद्य प्रसंस्करण उद्योग के लिए उत्पादन संबद्ध प्रोत्साहन योजना (पीएलआईएसएफपीआई) ने उत्साहजनक परिणाम दिखाए हैं, जिसमें लगभग सात हजार करोड़ रुपये के प्रतिबद्ध निवेश के मुकाबले संचयी निवेश नौ हजार करोड़ रुपये से अधिक हो गया है।
