National Updates
- External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar and Greece Foreign Affairs Minister George Gerapetritis today held a bilateral meeting in New Delhi. Both leaders expressed their views on a wide gamut of bilateral relationships.
- External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar said the process of deportation of illegal immigrants is a generally accepted principle in international relations, asserting that it is in the collective interest of the nations to encourage legal mobility and discourage illegal movement.
- The 5th Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting between the Ministry of Defence of India and Spain was held in New Delhi. During the meeting, both sides reviewed the ongoing bilateral defence cooperation activities and discussed the plan for multiple joint activities, including in the maritime domain.
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth reviewed the India-US defence cooperation spanning across multiple domains, including land, air, maritime, and space.
- Over 5.19 crore cases are currently pending in different courts in the country, including nearly 83 thousand cases in the Supreme Court, as of the end of last month.
- January 2025 was the warmest January on record. According to the European Copernicus Climate Service, it surpassed the previous high in January last year by nearly 0.1 degree Celsius.
- Labour and Employment Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya announced that the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has reached a significant milestone by surpassing 5 crore claim settlements in the financial year 2024-25, exceeding the 4.45 crore claims settled in the previous year.
- The government has redressed over 366 thousand grievances within 21 days of the timeline after the government issued comprehensive guidelines for handling public grievances in August last year.

- In Men’s Cricket, India registered a dominant four-wicket victory over England in the first ODI of three-match series at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. With the win, the Men in Blue are leading the series 1-nil.
- In the ongoing 38th National Games in Uttarakhand, Niraj Kumar from Services clinched the gold medal in the 50m Rifle Three Positions (Men) event. Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar from Madhya Pradesh secured the silver, while Swapnil Suresh Kusale from Maharashtra bagged the bronze.
- In the Indian Super League (ISL) Football, Mohun Bagan Super Giant defeated Punjab FC by 3-nil at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata.
