National Updates

  • A delegation from the Japan-India Business Cooperation Committee, comprising 17 members and led by its Chairman Tatsuo Yasunaga, called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The delegation included senior leaders from leading Japanese corporate houses across key sectors such as manufacturing, banking,etc,
  • External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar held wide-ranging and productive talks with his British counterpart, David Lammy, over the past two days at Chevening House in England.
  • President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the annual cultural festival, ‘Vividhta ka Amrit Mahotsav’ at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.
  • Niti Aayog released a strategic paper on the rapid evolution of quantum computing and its implications on national security in New Delhi. NITI Frontier Tech Hub (NITI-FTH), in partnership with the Data Security Council of India, released the paper.
  • The government has approved the development of the Sonprayag to Kedarnath ropeway with a length of 12.9 kilometres.

 

International Updates

  • In Bangladesh, thousands of people looted fish worth around Taka 4 crore from water bodies, or ‘Beels’, in Sunamganj district. The looting began last Friday when 500-700 people forcibly took fish from Kaman-Kachma Beel.
  • In Bangladesh, Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, a retired Professor of Dhaka University’s International Relations (IR) Department, took oath as an adviser on Wednesday, expanding the advisory council of the interim government.
  • US President Donald Trump has announced the implementation of reciprocal tariffs, set to take effect on April 2 reinforcing his administration’s stance on trade policy and criticising the European Union, China, Brazil, India, and South Korea for high tariffs.

  • Indian table tennis legend A. Sharath Kamal announced that he will retire later this month, ending a career spanning more than 22 years at the top of the sport. Sharath will bid farewell in front of friends and family in Chennai, where the WTT Star Contender event, his final tournament, will take place.
  • Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya announced that the Khelo India Para Games 2025 will be held in New Delhi from the 20th to the 27th of this month.
  • Australian cricket legend Steve Smith has officially announced his retirement from One-Day Internationals (ODIs), marking the end of an illustrious 14-year career in the 50-over format
