National Updates

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Colombo on a three-day state visit at the invitation of President Anura Kumara Disanayaka. This is PM Modi’s fourth visit to the island nation, six years after his previous one in 2019.

• The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Army conducted four successful flight tests of the Army version of the Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile from Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha.

• The Union Cabinet has approved four projects of Ministry of Railways with total cost of 18 thousand 658 crore rupees.

• The Ministry of Labour and Employment has disbursed financial assistance for education to all eligible applicants under Labour Welfare Schemes meant for the wards of Beedi, Cine, and Non-Coal Mine workers. A total of 32.51 crore rupees has been disbursed to over 92 thousands wards of such workers.

• India will launch a pioneering inter-ministerial scientific study to address zoonotic spillover risks at the human- wildlife- environment interface. This unique study will be conducted in select bird sanctuaries and wetlands across Sikkim, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

• The government has said that due to the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme, the sex ratio at birth has increased from 918 in 2014-15 to 930 in 2023-24 at the national level.
