National Updates

• Over 2.33 crore devotees took a holy dip in the Sangam during the third Amrit Snan on the occasion of Basant Panchami in Mahakumbh, Prayagraj. The Amrit Snan is the most significant and sacred ritual of the Maha Kumbh Mela.
• The Environment Ministry announced that the Framework Agreement on the establishment of the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) has officially come into force. The IBCA and its Secretariat have become a full-fledged, treaty-based, inter-governmental international organization.
• The 13th edition of joint military exercise ‘Ekuverin’ between the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Force has commenced in the archipelago nation. The military exercise commenced yesterday is a bilateral annual exercise conducted alternatively in India and Maldives.
• The Government has informed the Lok Sabha that the estimated unemployment rate has decreased from 6 per cent five years ago to 3.2 per cent during the last fiscal.
• Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that 100 Amrit Bharat trains, 50 Namo Bharat trains and 200 Vande Bharat trains both sleepers as well as chair car variants will be manufactured in the next two to three years.
• Over 30.58 crore unorganized workers have registered on the e-Shram portal till the 28th of January.
• A parliamentary delegation from the Russian Federation, led by the Chairman of the State Duma of Russia, Vyacheslav Volodin, called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi.

International Updates

• The 24th edition of Medlab Middle East commenced yesterday at the Dubai World Trade Centre, bringing together over 800 exhibitors from 40 countries for a four-day showcase of medical laboratory technology and healthcare innovation.
• A car bomb exploded on the outskirts of a northern Syrian city on Monday, killing at least 19 people. The dead included 18 women and one man. According to the local Syrian civil defence, another 15 women were wounded, some of them in critical condition.
• Indian-American vocalist and entrepreneur Chandrika Tandon has won the Grammy award for the album ‘Triveni’ in the Best New Age, Ambient or Chant Album category. The 67th Annual Grammy Awards kicked off at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles today, celebrating the music and resilience.
• India raises aid to Maldives by 50%, allocates USD 68.7 million for new fiscal year.
• Canada and MEXICO have ordered retaliatory tariffs on goods from the United States. This follows US President Donald Trump ordering sweeping tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico and China.

• The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash reward of 5 crore rupees for the Indian squad that claimed their second consecutive U19 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup at the Bayuemas Ovalin, Malaysia.
• At the World Table Tennis event, Indian star Sreeja Akula was knocked out in the Women’s Singles Round of 64 in Singapore.
