National Updates

• The 7th India-Japan Maritime Affairs Dialogue was held in Tokyo, Japan. During the dialogue, the two sides conferred on ways to sustain a secure maritime environment conducive to inclusive growth and global well-being.

• Parliament has passed the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025 with the Rajya Sabha approving it today. The Lok Sabah has already passed the bill. The legislation seeks to regulate the immigration, entry, and stay of foreigners in India.

• President Droupadi Murmu will embark on a four-day state visit to Portugal and Slovakia from 7th of this month. During her visit to Portugal, the President will meet and hold delegation-level talks with her counterpart Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day visit to Thailand today morning to participate in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit. This will be the Prime Minister’s third visit to Thailand after 2016 and 2019.

• India has surpassed the United States and Europe by producing one thousand 681 locomotives during the financial year 2024-25. The Ministry of Railways in a statement said that this marks an increase of 19 per cent, compared to the 1,472 locomotives produced in the previous financial year.

• The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has constructed over 5,600 kilometres of National Highways against the target of 5 thousand 150 kilometres during the financial Year 2024-25.

• The Indian Navy signed the project sanction order under the Make-I category for the design and development of a 6-megawatt medium-speed marine diesel engine.

• ७ वीं भारत-जापान समुद्री मामलों की वार्ता टोक्यो, जापान में आयोजित की गई। बातचीत के दौरान, दोनों पक्षों ने समावेशी विकास और वैश्विक कल्याण के लिए अनुकूल सुरक्षित समुद्री वातावरण बनाए रखने के तरीकों पर विचार-विमर्श किया।
• संसद ने आव्रजन और विदेशी विधेयक, २०२५ को पारित कर दिया है और राज्यसभा ने आज इसे मंजूरी दे दी है। लोक सबा पहले ही विधेयक पारित कर चुकी है। यह कानून भारत में विदेशियों के आप्रवासन, प्रवेश और प्रवास को विनियमित करने का प्रयास करता है।
• राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मू इस महीने की 7 तारीख से पुर्तगाल और स्लोवाकिया की चार दिवसीय राजकीय यात्रा पर जाएंगी। पुर्तगाल की अपनी यात्रा के दौरान राष्ट्रपति अपने समकक्ष मार्सेलो रेबेलो डी सूसा से मुलाकात करेंगी और प्रतिनिधिमंडल स्तर की वार्ता करेंगी।
• प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी छठे बिम्सटेक शिखर सम्मेलन में भाग लेने के लिए आज सुबह थाईलैंड की दो दिवसीय यात्रा पर निकलेंगे। प्रधानमंत्री की २०१६ और २०१९ के बाद थाईलैंड की यह तीसरी यात्रा होगी।
• भारत ने वित्त वर्ष २०२४-२५ के दौरान एक हजार ६८१ लोकोमोटिव का उत्पादन करके संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका और यूरोप को पीछे छोड़ दिया है। रेल मंत्रालय ने एक बयान में कहा कि इससे पिछले वित्त वर्ष में उत्पादित १,४७२ लोकोमोटिव की तुलना में १९ प्रतिशत की वृद्धि हुई है।
• भारतीय राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग प्राधिकरण (एनएचएआई) ने वित्तीय वर्ष 2024-25 के दौरान 5 हजार 150 किलोमीटर के लक्ष्य के मुकाबले 5,600 किलोमीटर से अधिक राष्ट्रीय राजमार्गों का निर्माण किया है।

• Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree creating a new state agency tasked with enhancing immigration governance. State media reported that the Citizenship and Foreign Nationals Registration Service will operate as part of the Interior Ministry.

• In Myanmar, state-run television reported that the death toll from last week’s devastating earthquake has crossed 2,886, with a further 4,639 injured and 373 missing.

• The U.S. has accused China of putting the region’s security at risk after it launched a second day of military drills targeting Taiwan with a rehearsal blockade and attack.

• The president of Chile, Gabriel Boric Font, stressed that multilateralism is the key and the path ahead for the world. Delivering the 53rd Sapru House Lecture on Chile and India- Side by Side in the Global South, President Font said Chile wants to expand its partnership with India.
